If you are a Calvinist, the answer will be no, you will not necessarily end up in hell if you don't accept Jesus.

That's because "acceptance" in religious terms has connotations of authorization. Not so. God is sovereign. Man does not have the ability to look to God for salvation. Adam had the full capability for fellowship with God, but his sin brought a total incapability for him and all of his posterity.

And in this "total depravity" we can make any decision we like, but none of those decisions lead to God. Therefore God himself is the one that must work in our hearts, and for that matter, give us new ones. This is the doctrine of predestination, God loving his own before we were even aware of this love, not deserving of it, but enjoying a relationship with the creator of the universe nevertheless.

Therefore any acceptance that Christians claim, is simply a misguided response to what the Holy Spirit has already done. Acceptance is "I did it." Grace is "God did it."

It comes down to what you actually believe, yourself, about hell etc.

If you believe that "if I don't accept Jesus as my personal saviour" and if you believe there is a hell, then I believe you will probably reach a place that goes along with your belief system.

I do not believe in a hell and I do not believe that Jesus would want me to accept him as my personal savior.

I follow the teachings of Jesus but also of Buddha and other great teachers. So I feel that if I live a life of love, non-judgement etc. etc. that Jesus himself, if that be the case, would look at me and say "Thank you for trying to follow in my footsteps. I wanted to teach, not to create a religion:.

My opinion only, don't forget. We all have the free will to choose to think whatever we want.

Everyone has their own belief system worthy of respect.
My beliefs system says that yes, you must accept the gift of forgiveness in order to go to heaven.
The bible doesn't use the term "personal savior', true, but it does say (In Romans) that if you accept with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord then you will be saved.
Peace!

Christian Universalism does not teach the existence of an eternal hell.

Here are some resources for anyone interested in Christian Universalism as well as Christian Unitarianism (these are known as classical Unitarianism and Universalism which were the original roots of UU, but are no longer predominant in the UUA - and Univesalists do not necessarily have to be Unitarian and vice-versa):

Just try to always do the right thing and you will be rewarded, do wrong and you will be punished. Most often it will be your own mind that doles out reward and punishment; Jesus has nothing to do with it.

Nowhere in the Bible does the term "personal saviour" appear. This is a modern concept.
