I'm not sure about 'free' but my parents manage to home-educate me and my siblings for approx $50 a year.
You don't need either a teacher or a curriculum in order to homeschool (we don't bother with either and we're going great!).
You can keep the expenses down by teaching yourself, deciding upon your own curriculum, finding your own resources and materials etc (try the library, internet and local op-shops) and just generally staying as far away as you can from pre-prepared or bought-in materials/resources.

I don't know how it works in Canada but in the U.S., parents are the ones that homeschool their kids, so it IS free. I never heard of kids being homeschooled by a teacher or tutor or someone that charges. That would defeat the whole purpose of why the parents want to homeschool their kids.

Please check your previous question about homeschooling in B.C. I provided the link to the BC homeschooling association and they have all the information you need about homeschooling. As I said there, it does NOT cost to homeschool anywhere. Of course, that means other than what you choose to purchase. One of the forms of legal homeschooling in B.C. will actually make funds available to you. But you need to meet specific requirements to obtain those funds. Check the link I provided in the other answer.

Sure. I am 55 and I am homeschooled for free. I also homeschool my 15 year old very cheaply. We have internet and a local library.

Homeschooling is always free unless you want to buy a curriculum. But you don't have to, there are so many possibilities at your library!

Of course-- you don't need to purchase a pre-packaged curriculum or hire a teacher.
Use library and internet resources in your studies. Work with a parent in designing your own educational program (what you intend to study).

Well, "free" might be stretching it. Occasionally you will probably have to buy something, but a lot of it can free. The library is full of books on every topic. The internet is cheap.
