Well with more advances in technology it is become older and older.
It used to be said that 40 was "past the prime" but today 40 year olds are the new 30 year olds with all of the advances in plastic surgery, skin care products, and the increase in a demand for a better body.
At this point - I would 60. Because at that point plastic surgery is risky and you can't run track like a 20 year old anymore so it seems that at that age you begin to age gracefully.

well now that the baby bomers saw what happend to generations before them the search for the fountain of youth went into overdrive, and medicine has gotten better so between the vitamins and medical procedures not just cosmetic old back in the forties is not the same as it is now.
I don't consider 50 to be old. I think 90 is old, but that can change again.
Old to me is not being able to take care of yourself, but I've met some 70 year olds who could pass for 60 and are living better than the 70-year olds of the past.

I never consider anyone at any age "past their prime" because each phase of our lives has a prime period. I consider "old" as one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel.

Old isn't an age, it's how you feel. Some people feel old at 20, some people feel 30 when they are 60. It's all about health and perspective. I consider old a mindset, not an age.

Haven't you heard that age 60 is the new 40? People are living longer and healthier more enhanced lives. Sixty is no longer old. There are even some 80 year olds that are having the times of their lives. I am going to go with 100, it is the new 80.
**Note to Bugsey, it is 50 that is said to be overthe hill, not 40**

depends on what you are trying to measure..... physical ability?, mental ability? usefulness to socity?... I would say that in the coarse of life you have to have physical resilience early on to make up for the lack of knowledge.... like a baby falling down the stairs... not a grand demo of brightness, however survive just the same as grandma knowing not put her shoes at the top.
I would say the 2 intersect for most people who take good care of their body and minds between 45-55... for those who dont, probably 28-35....
prime mental probably 75 if you keep your mind active.
prime physical probably 24
prime usefulness to our culture remains equal from 20 to 90, it just takeson a different roll as you move throug life
I saw this little passage written somewhere and thought it accurate...... " you are old, only when your dreams are repaces with regrets"

I think a person's prime can come at any age. It just depends on the person. You aren't old till you are 6 feet under! Its never to late to start living life!

When I was 10, 15 was old
When I was 20, 30 was old
When I was 30, 45 to 50 was old
Now that I am in my 50's no one is old that is still breathing
And let me tell you something honey, It all happens in a flash!

65 - at least that's what society thinks of seniors. I've known some people who were past their prime at 40 and others still going strong at 70. It's mostly attitude and perception of others.

i would say 50 or older, because really you have lived your life and you are past the time of having children and things like that, you would feel unable to do things that you could have easily done wen you were younger, eg 20. so thats what i think anyways =]
