It is an assumption . But the real reason is that atheists love their sin and do not have the least intention of giving it up. So they say " There is no God " despite the overwhelming evidence that God is .

1 Corinthians 1:18 For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

I can't speak for all other atheists but that is most definitely NOT why I am a nonbeliever. My life has treated me well so far and I consider myself extremely fortunate in many ways. Where I have failed or had troubles I take the responsibility myself or attribute it to the way things go sometimes. Into each life some rain must fall the saying goes, I don't blame a deity I don't believe in for rain or sunshine. I hope that if I did believe my belief wouldn't be as one looking to Santa for gifts in life. I am an atheist because I find the claims unreasonable and the supporting evidence lacking, its a not having faith in things that are unreasonable to me thing.

Yes, in most cases, this is an invalid assumption. Atheists are all individuals and the only common thing to all of us is that we don't believe in any gods. Given this, there may be a few that this might apply to, but for the majority, it is simply a matter of lack of evidence, the contradictions of religions, and/or the logically fallacies of religion.

Any opinion that someone has about another is an assumption. Some assumptions are out there and some are sorta close. Still no matter how close they are, no one can be sure. No one can be sure unless they are in their brains.

yes it is

I can only speak for myself but I had my falling out with god because when I really needed him and his followers to help me I was completely deserted. It had nothing to do with god being a genie of sorts, and making all my wishes come true. Its that when my parents got divorced the church abandoned me, a nine year old, for something I had no control over. Why would god let them do that to me? I wasntbasking for my parents to get back together or for a perfect childhood. All I wanted wasnsomone to comfort me in my pain and he couldn't even do that.

Yes it is an assumption. That's not the reason I don't believe in a deity. I don't believe in a deity because it is an absurd idea.

Yes, I'm assuming that is a child who is asking that question.
Or someone who is bored looking to get a rise out of people.

Yes, it is an ASSumption.

Thanks for giving me another answer to star, next time someone starts whining about how "attacked" theists are by atheists, I will show them the question you pointed us to.
