I have been in your shoes many times (even recently!). I don't think searching for answers at this site is pathetic at all. It simply shows your commitment to finding the truth.

I was raised in a non-believing household. Both my parents rejected the religion of their youth, and my father in particular has always thought that people who are "religious" are judgmental and weak-minded. Because of my up-bringing and other factors, faith in God has never come easy to me.

So here are some ideas:

1. Recognize that all of us struggle with a lack of faith. Life throws you many curve balls, and there are certainly times when God appears far away. Don't feel bad about this. It is part of the process.

2. Jesus tells us that if we continue to "knock," continue to seek God, God will answer.

3. Find a practice that brings you closer to God. Perhaps this is the problem. I find that when my faith is weak, it is because I have been spending too much time on the freeway! (or working, etc.). For me, long walks with prayer allows my mind to stop blocking God, and my heart to feel God's loving presence. For you, it might be talking to a spiritual adviser, singing, etc.

Have faith that God loves you and waits for your return. Peace be with you on your journey.

"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

"And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Mat.28:20)

Why don't you start from the beginning, read the Bible, keep an open mind and remember that it was taken from scribes written for those times, the interpretation thereof may have been lost through a misplaced word in translating it to latin then english...so what to do? always look for the message it reads like a story, you can skip the geneology section, it is a record of all that came from adam and eve...come back if you have questions about it...its the story of man's evolvement if you will...but the truth and answers one can find there if one chooses to read and study the Bible is worth it and will enrich your life...I pray that Jesus help you to seek the knowledge you are hungering for and to come to the truth through His teachings...only you will know if it is true in your heart or not. God bless and God's speed.

Water baptize saves you. Jesus says Mark 16:16.
The name Jesus is preached to all nations Luke 24:46-47
Act 4:9 4:10 4:11 4:12 one name not three.
colossians 3:17 all in Jesus' name
10:13 Romans Acts 22:16 Call on the name of the Lord
1 Peter 3:20 3:21 water saves
1 Peter 2:9 We are all Priests when we are saved.
Finally don't believe every church because there is many

Hmmm.........I wouldn't say you're an "unbeliever" but rather a "seeker", a seeker who is on a journey of faith, a journey of truth. We all have had doubts or feelings that somehow we we were missing the mark or our heads dominate our hearts.

CS Lewis used to say (I'm totally paraphrasing) that there are people who call themselves "Christians" who are actually moving further away from Christ and there are people who call themselves by a lot of other things but are moving towards Christ.

If you're praying and seeking truth, I would say that this is faith. Praying/seeking takes faith.......belief that something will happen or God will answer.

God loves you and is closer than you think.

If you truly do not want to be an Atheist any longer, you could begin by going to churches, one each week until you find one that seems right to you. ( I am a Catholic and believe that the fullness of truth can be found within the Catholic church. ) If you do not do this, hang out with the believers, you cannot hope to become one. The prayer is important too, "Lord, if you truly exist, please let me know...etc." And, read the New Testament. It will introduce you to the most loving man ever to have lived on Earth. Pray both before and after your scripture reading. Remember that faith is a gift. You need to be sincere and truly put forth an effort to obtain it. Another very good idea might be to find a couple of old Hollywood films that are very persuasive, "The Robe," "Quo Vadis," "Dimetrius and the Gladiators," etc. Log onto the "Coming Home Network" and find out what others have found out.

He made an entire universe out of no longer something yet human beings nevertheless locate excuses to no longer have self belief. despite he does, there will be people who do no longer prefer to have self belief, that would tend to locate techniques around it. He additionally does not desire it to be too obtrusive so as that we extremely could have loose will by utilizing with the flexibility to push aside what we don't prefer to settle for as actual. in any different case human beings may be distracted attempting to look for God greater for the advantages of eternal existence, than as a results of fact of a real desire to show from their wicked techniques.

Hi Sarah,

You need look no further for God, than within your own self, your spiritual self!

That may or may not sound confusing to you, but it is literally and actually true.

God, being our loving Heavenly Father, who is spirit, and who is omnipresent, meaning everywhere present, is right here, and has been here with you all along ~ loving you and guiding you.

The mere fact you want to know God is the proof that he has found you and is trying to acknowledge your deep soul desire to know him.

Take some quiet time, alone away from the hassles of your life. Sit quietly and simply tell God what is your difficulty, what's on your mind, and what is in your heart. Then take some more time to listen to your own soul. You will certainly begin to feel his presence in your life.

I found that a great way to reconnect with God is to make a point every day to have this alone time with him. Just you and God.

For me it was five minutes every morning when I first got up. Five little minutes every day, faithfully.

You see, he's already acknowledged himself to you, it's just that you aren't used to this 'within' thing - he isn't a human being you can physically see, feel and touch, but you certainly will know without a doubt that he's with you.

So, you may want to try making a daily appointment with God. The rest will come naturally, for that is the way of it ~ perfectly natural.

You're in my thoughts and prayers! ~Studious One

You need to ask yourself why you want to believe? Has something happened in your life to make you feel the need for a higher power? I know when I was trying to sort out my feelings of impending disbelief, many of those feelings came from trying to pray and NOT feeling God. And that is what set me on my journey toward atheism. I also wanted to believe...with all my heart and soul I wanted to. To be like the rest of the world. But I just couldn't feel it no matter how hard I tried. Maybe you should look else where in your life for meaning and not to an imaginary being that can only bring false hope and comfort. Good luck sweetie.

Consult a church minister, I doubt that you will receive the Word of God into your heart through something as impersonal as this forum.

Why do you need to pray to God to feel a belief in God? That probably isn't the nature of God anyway. Prayer never did me a bit of good either. But it doesn't stop me from believing that God exists. When I look around at this world and its order and its nature, that's all I really need.
