Or, are you blindly accepting what someone told you?
Revelation, or revealed religion, is defined in Webster's New World Dictionary as: "God's disclosure to man of Himself." This should read, "God's alleged disclosure to man of himself." For unless God reveals to each of us individually that a particular religion is truly His disclosure to us of Himself, then, by believing that religion, we are not taking His word for it, but we are instead putting our belief in the person or institution telling us it is so. This is what we are doing when we believe in any revealed religion, and that's all Christianity is. It's a revealed religion like many others such as Islam and Judaism.

Doesn't it make more sense to believe in a loving God and not one who is capable of murder because we 'misbehave'?

I probably shouldn't admit this, but yes, God's presence was very much known to me on just one occasion. It had absolutely nothing to do with religion, any book, or even any beliefs. It had much to do with a consciousness that probably doesn't happen very often, or to very many people. OK. You can call the guys in white coats now.

I believe that God reveals himself to all people. Its just revealed in different ways. Many choose the traditions of institutional religion because of culture, up-bringing, and even personal investigations. Many believe what they were taught because it makes sense to them.
Does it make sense to believe in a loving God? Yes, and most would say they do believe in a loving God.
Does Christianity, Judaism and Islam believe in a God who is mean and murders them when they are bad??? No, this is not an accurate reflection of their beliefs. Death, violence, murder, etc.. are not something that God intended for humanity at all. It is here because of our fallen natures. It is more accurately a sign of our need for redemption.
Also from God's perspective, our death is not viewed as something terrible at all. It is only a transition from one state to another.

Yes, God "revealed" Himself to me after mocking Him for 28 years. He showed me what truth was and why there is so much confusion in the world about religion. He changed my life and that is why salvation is called a "personal" relationship. Salvation is not a get out of hell free card, it is knowing God and anyone who doesn't know Him, hear Him, and feel Him at work in their life, doesn't have Him. Absolutely NO other religion teaches an individual can have a personal relationship with God here on earth. By the way, I did not meet Jesus in a church, it was in the privacy of my own home. Once you meet Him, you will never forget it and it will be the one experience you can't put into words. Peace.

Yes, God has revealed himself to me… I have shared my testimony several times on this forum and have been mocked and ridiculed for it. I have been a Christian a long time. Christians have a bond through the Holy Spirit. It is a bond whereby people who have chosen not to acknowledge him struggle with our obedience to a spirit they can not identify with. Everyone is always asking for proof…but will not accept the testimony of those of us who have seen, heard or feel God working in our lives. It is easier to dismiss, it takes responsibility to learn and understand. God is present, a living spirit who will communicate. Why are other religions rejected, because simply put, God gave us the guidelines to follow him, a principle set forth long before the time he was manifested as Christ. We can not account for how and when he has made himself know to other “religions” we can only be responsible for the knowledge he has revealed to us. There is one way to reach the Kingdom, by the name of Jesus Christ, there is only one God, a living God who has revealed himself in his creation.
I wasn’t raised with religion, my parents didn’t have religion. God revealed himself when I called on him; I found that the more I acknowledge him the more he revealed himself…it is an individual responsibility to search him out.
God purifies my spirit through correction and love.
This is an on going process. The Holy Spirit is my guide, teacher and comforter, just as Jesus promised. By feeling remorse, regret or even sorrow God has shown me his path. Through joy and laughter, family and friends he reminds me his love is unconditional. Mostly, I’m in awe at how patient he is with me.
I see how God puts people, places and words in my path to hear him. I tell people if you acknowledge him…he will acknowledge you.
I pray often throughout the day, I believe in relationship above religion… every time God speaks to my heart, answers my questions I’m just as excited… as if it’s the first time I’ve heard his voice.

It is better to believe in reality then to try and create a God that only fits into what we want to hear. As a human we need to strive to understand God through how he has revealed himself to us. Not try and fit God into the box of self satisfaction. God calls this ( having itching ears). Only wanting to hear what we want to hear. We only want to think of God as loving and kind. God is loving and kind right along with being just and fair. God gave us a free will to choose what ever it is that we choose. But as any intelligent human out there knows along with choices comes consequences to those choices, whether good or bad. The choice of sin is death, eternal death. Because of mans wickedness, we are in need of a savior. Thence Christ, here to redeem us from our own consequences. Yes he has reveled himself to me.

Your comments identify your desire to rationalize God through your own understandings and self righteous judgment. If you believe that there is a God, do you really think that you can fully understand Him? Do you really feel that you can comprehend a creator? If you do, you should understand, you immediately discredit your own argument.

I reject all so called "revealed" religions given the lack of any credible consensus amongst them.
So in that sense, I agree with most Deist.

No, and I'm glad you used the word 'disclose' rather than the word most theists use when asking this question, which is 'expose' and makes sarcastic opportunists like me take advantage of their wording with a little sarcasm.
