have you tried patting (not rubbing) those lotions on when just getting out of the shower when your skin is still slightly damp?

My personal favorite is Olay complete body wash for extra dry skin and if that isn't enough I rub down with a moisturizing lotion. Baby oil breaks me out with little tiny bumps though so I can't use that but most lotions for dry skin do well for me. Some of the soaps on the market are very drying to my skin.

try cetaphil during the day... keeps your skin moisturized for a longer period of time without having to reapply... and at night before going to bed you could apply some aquaphor (which is pretty similar to vasoline) to any areas that are particularly dry... like your hands and joints or around your face... i say put it on at night because you need to let it sit on your skin and it'll make it soft after a while... and since it's just on your skin and doesn't absorb right away you'd look a little shiny...
