Canon is kind of the king of the Point 'n Shoots. My kit camera is a Canon A570 IS ... it's a great camera, can be used fullly automatic and gives you room to grow as it's got some nifty features. It's DigiLogic III processor is what Canon uses in their more expensive cameras AND it has optical image stabilization. I can handhold exposesures down to 1/8 of a second and get a great shot. It's the biggest bang for the buck IMO in a Point 'n Shoot.

I have a Canon PowerShot A570 IS.
It's a reliable camera that operates on AA Batteries, or NiMH Rechargeables. With it's many features, you can photograph in the dark, indoors, underwater, landscapes, portraits and more with a feature for every one.
Plus, it has 16x zoom, and a quite large screen.
Best of luck!

I dont know a good one, but DO NOT get a fugifilm camera. i dislike the way they work and i have had 2 and they both broke within a year. i never did anything to make them break either. all mechanical defects. also, i got a kodak easy share, took it out of the box, took one picture, and the bulb busted and then the flash didnt work, AFTER ONE PICTURE!

i would at least stay away from those two cameras

xoxo

My wife just got a Nikon CoolPix S50c. She bought it online for about $250.00. It is a nice camera and easy to use. I would highly recommend it.

Any of the Canon Powershots are good and many of them are in your price range. I prefer the ones that use AA batteries.
