Father sun. Mother moon.
I was born on a gibbous moon, which I learned some years ago by an astrologer, but before I knew this I have always painted my self portraits with a crescent (gibbous) moon in the sky.
The moon is a luminary body, whose soft rays bathe the earth in magical mystery, and my sight with awe and beauty.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL QUESTION!!
Yes, the moon means a lot to me. She represents to me the feminine, the power, the wisdom, the guide. She is the queen of the night, bright or just shy behind the shadows, she is there, looking after us. I talk to her all the time and I can't stop saying how beautiful she is. She is protective and mysterious... she inspires lovers and poets, she is the owner of our dreams...
In Brazil, we say Saint George, the catholic saint who was a soldier and fought against the dragon, lives in the moon. The stains on its surface resemble Saint George riding a horse fighting the dragon, if you pay attention. Or maybe it is just for those who want to see him. Saint George is a warrior and protects us from danger.
We also have this tale that a native girl fell in love with the moon. Fascinated by its reflexion in the river's waters, she dived and drowned. As a tribute, the moon made her come back as a flower that floats in the Amazon river. See this: www.sumauma.net/amazonian/legends/legends-regia.html.
Thank you for the question!
Peace!

The Moon is an object of influence. It pulls the tide back and forth across the sea, influences the weather, influences our moods and sleep cycles, even down to a woman's natural cycle. It is not a huge influence, since a huge influence would rip the tectonic plates right off the surface and destroy life as we know it. It is a constant gentle influence that guides us.
the Moon is also a prodigal son, as I once was. It was torn from the Earth by an Asteroid, during the age when the dinosaurs were wiped out in an instant. It coalesced and cooled, then compacted itself into a lifeless mass, resembling it's mother, but without any atmosphere or internal heat to keep it safe from the influence of the universe. IT hovers over us, trying to get home, but lacking the strength or impulse to make that first step. If it ever did return, it would bring calamity as the rest of the Earth shifted to accommodate it. It may not feel welcome anymore, but that does not erase the feeling that it belongs. So it waits and it works and it takes the abuse from the rest of creation that we are buffered from. Will we ever reunite and what will be the consequences?
The moon is also the stepping stone to the sky. We build our little platforms, tree-houses in the atmosphere. But when we can survive on the moon, we are one step closer to stepping across the void and exploring other worlds. Are we the light that brings these orbs meaning, or the parasites that suck life out of the planet we inhabit? We don't know yet, but if we can bring life to the moon, we are one step closer to being symbiotes (one would hope)
Moon is also a light that comes tickling through my door every once in awhile. She shows up on that lovely Yahoo 360 page that I don't quite know what to do with yet. I was hoping I could post music on it, but I haven't figured out how to. (Besides Mike Daly was kind enough to host my sheet music on his http://www.sheetmusicdigital.com site and I already have a home for my free MP3s on http://www.soundclick.com
She teases me a little now and then and causes me to think about things in a slightly different way than I am used to. Never right in front of me, always winking from the corner of my eye, she is the ghost of my peripheral vision. She must be lovely, but I am afraid to look. I am old and content in my ways, but not so old that I cannot remember the chase. I am pleased to remember, and satisfied with the friendly banter and warm companionship. The effect of this moon's glow warms my wife, children and grandchildren as well so it is a good thing that it influences, like the tide. The sun, the terrible glorious sun, is peeking past the horizon now. The moon is well across the sky and will not even see this until tomorrow perhaps. She may blush for a moment and waves will jump up like porpoises at play, but she will continue on her way. We will all continue on our way, richer for having contemplated one another and acknowledging each other's existence and role in things previously unspoken.
Some of us take the Moon for granted of course, but that would be a mistake. Every now and then there is an eclipse. It only takes a few brief moments to recognize that the Moon is missing and there is a hole in the sky that may not ever be mended. But she peeks around the curtain, invites us to add her back to our pages and insists that nothing really happened! She just had to be away for awhile and no, she does not know when it will happen again. I suppose it adds to the mystery and may be a reminder that we will never tame the Moon. We must accept these things for what they are. - sigh -

The moon was placed in orbit around the earth for the purpose it serves. Without the moon, earth could not exist, man could not exist.

An astrological entity that I enjoy watching rise and fall above and beyond the horizon when it appears to be bigger than it does when it is high in the sky. I like hiking under a full moon when it is high in the sky and I don't need artificial light to find my way.
