It's religion. It doesn't have to make sense.
Both of the Genesis creation stories (there are two) came from earlier myths, as did most of the rest of the Old Testament.
God is a superstition.

no it says, nothing about Seth being the third son of Adam and Eve, it says that Eve bore another son, as far as we know Seth could have been the 20 son born, but Seth had a very special purpose and importance in mankind. There were also many girls born to Adam and Eve, they just were not mentioned. That is where all the people came from. We always try to picture the lifespans of those in the ancient days as the same as ours, but they lived for hundreds of years, and produced many children, who produced many children.

Possibly a trick question ? Cain was not a child of ADAM and Eve. So Seth was actually the SECOND child of ADAM and Eve. If you will read in the bible is says that on the 6th day God created MANKIND ( all the races). It is written that after the 7th day God created Adam and Eve ( the first Jews and last race to be created). Anyone with any perception can see there was no incest involved at all.

Everyone that exists on this planet originated from Adam and Eve. Scientist have actually found proof in our DNA that we all have Eve as our "first mother".
They both lived over 900 years, and produced alot of offspring. I am sure "all bets were off" in that Eve continued to have children all along, and in those 900 years their offspring were producing too. Marrying one another, that is how it was done in those days.
Do the math, pretty soon, there are so many people, you can see how groups would have gathered and settled together, becoming a race....

Adam and Eve had many children, but the ones God wanted us to know about were Cain, Able, and Seth. There are many things that is not told in the Bible. We have to believe what is in there because if they wrote everything we would never be able to carry and read the Bible. There is too much to read. So God gave us what He wanted us to know. We will learn the rest in heaven.

A better question would be, how could Cain and Abel procreate with each other? did they sleep with their mother?
