The only advantage I can see to flat is they can be hidden under a carpet or the white version run along a wall/baseboard without being as visible. From a theoretical perspective I don't see how they can give a better picture from a digital signal.

Sure different cable will fail at different lengths, but as long as the signal is strong enough to be resolved at the output (and this excludes marginal cases characterized by sparking or small dropped pixels) the resulting picture will be the same no matter which cable is used.

There is excellent info available on the Bluejeancables. com site (See link, which provides further info links).

A 6' CM rated (higher than CL-2) BJC Series 1 Blue Jean cable costs $30 (Link 2). A heavily discounted (CL-2) 6' Altona HDMI 1.3b certified cable costs $53 (Link 3).

Since the BJ cable is 23.5 awg while the Altona is 28 awg bandwidth capability of the BJ cable should be higher than the Altona.

It's your choice, but personally if I wanted the best cable I'd go with BJ cables unless the shape (flat) or colour choice (white and black) provides an advantage. From a signal/picture perspective there just ain't going to be any difference.

In fact, unless you are running long distances or plan on in-wall installation, I'd suggest Monoprice cables will give you the same results at even less $$. See the last link for a budget vs Monster cable comparison.

Hope this helps.

Hdmi Monster Cable Vs Regular

No its a bunch of marketing BS.

Can you tell if I am browsing on a Sun workstation with a T3 connection to the internet, or am I on a Linux box with a wireless connection to a cable modem, or am I on a Windows box with DSL?

All of these things make no difference to you because they all produce perfect transmission of the digital information.

Digital is very insensitive to the cable so round/square/flat/optical wont make a single bit of difference.

My advice: buy your cables from BlueJeans or MonoPrice. The only slight difference is the thickness of the inner wires which you need if running over about 15 feet.
