They found Jesus in Bethlehem, but not in the manger.
"On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of frankincense and myrrh." (Matthew 2:11)
Contrary to tradition, the wise men did not visit the manger on the night of Jesus' birth. They came some months later and visited him as a "child" in a "house".
In a dream the wise men were told to avoid going back to Herod. Because they didn't return to Herod, he issued the decree to kill all the boys who were two years and younger. Why that age instead of saying the newborn boys, because Jesus was roughly 16 months to 2 years old.
Joseph was told by and angel to flee to Egypt, and it was at a later time, they went to Nazareth from Egypt. (Matthew 2)

Matthew 2:11 says that the wise men came into the "house" in Nazareth (not the manger in Bethlehem). Jesus was about 2 years old at this time.

It is a common misconception that the wise men came and visited Jesus shortly after His birth. In fact, the wise men came months (or possibly as much as two years) later, when Joseph and Mary had already settled in Nazareth. That is why Matthew 2:11 says the wise men visited and worshipped Jesus in a house. Jesus was born in Bethlehem, and the wise men likely witnessed the "Star of Bethlehem" at the time Jesus was born. The wise men did not arrive in Israel for a significant amount of time after Jesus was born. During that time, Joseph and Mary had returned to live in Nazareth (Matthew 2:13-20).

It appears they went to Bethlehem. When you start reading into the two years and younger decree it starts a chain reaction of all sorts of craziness. The truth is that it is not clear how Old Jesus was exactly when the wise men visited. It does appear to be Bethleham

Mat 2:7 Then Herod, when he had privily called the wise men, enquired of them diligently what time the star appeared.
Mat 2:8 And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search diligently for the young child; and when ye have found [him], bring me word again, that I may come and worship him also.
Mat 2:9 When they had heard the king, they departed; and, lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.
Mat 2:10 When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.
Mat 2:11 And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.
Mat 2:12 And being warned of God in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.
Mat 2:13 And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.
Mat 2:14 When he arose, he took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt:

In Bethlehem.

In a house, almost two years after Jesus had been born.

Then the family fled to Egypt, then when they came back they settled in Nazareth.
Matthew Chapter 2.

It's Bethlehem----> Egypt-----> Nazareth!!!!

People are getting confused here, lol!

good question, showing up the thinking of man! What! was Herod the King a prophet?! He sent those wise men to Bethlehem, and I'll just bet they didn't go! Nowhere in my old Bible does it say they actually went to Bethlehem, nor is the word 'house' there in my inspired interlinear! And the book of Alma, which my good friend Liona showed me, says that the dear Lord were born in Jerusalem. That's another testiment about my dear Lord. It does look a bit off, but that's the word of the Lord, so my good friend Liona tells me.
