Jesus warns us not to keep children from him. He never said any of us were God's children from birth. He gave very explicit directions on what it takes to become a child of God. As I recall, something about taking up a cross.

lol! that is what my good friends the Sticklers say when they visit. They used of go to the kingdome hall down the street and now go to some world wise church of God that says that at baptism a baby spiritual child of God comes into your heart and grows into a real spiritual child. They didn't like much the kingdome hall telling them that Mrs McFarlane who just died was a spiritual child but they the Sticklers I mean were going to inherit just a earthly kingdome. I don't blame them 'cause Mrs McFarlane's son Blair who inherited the kingdome hall says that he is another spiritual child but he never said that afore his momma died. She was a bit spiteful though. so you have a good day.

“But to all who did receive Him [Jesus], who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God” (John 1:12).
This passage clearly explains how to become God’s child. We must receive Jesus by believing in Him. What must we believe about Jesus?

First, we must recognize that Jesus is the eternal Son of God who became man. Born through the power of the Holy Spirit by the virgin Mary, Jesus did not inherit Adam’s sin nature. Therefore, He is called the second Adam (1 Corinthians 15:22). While Adam’s one disobedience brought the curse of sin on the world, Christ’s perfect life can cover our sinful ones. Our response must be to repent (turn from sin), trusting His perfect life to purify us.

Second, we must have faith in Jesus as Savior. God’s plan was to sacrifice His perfect Son on the cross to pay the punishment we deserve for our sin: death. Christ’s death frees those who receive Him from the penalty and power of sin.

Finally, we must follow Jesus as Lord. After raising up Christ as the Victor over sin and death, God gave Him all authority (Ephesians 1:20-23). Jesus leads all who receive Him; He will judge all who reject Him (Acts 10:42).

We are all born of our father satan and later choose to be adopted by Father God through our faith in Jesus.

John 8:42-47-The Children of the Devil
42 Jesus said to them, "If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own; but he sent me. 43 Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. 44 You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. 45 Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! 46 Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me? 47 He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."

We are all by nature children of wrath untill God gives us a new nature and a new heart. Then we become a child of God.

1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others.
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.Ephesians 2: 1-10

God loves everyone, all of us...but not all of us are His children.

To become a child of God, we must ask for forgiveness and ask Jesus into our heart. Then we are graphed into the family. We are adopted.

Hope that helps.
