Although i may be generally regarded as a bad idea, I think it is all relative. As long as their smoking and drinking is not in excess and not bothersome to you, I dont see a problem. Most people drink at least socially and many also smoke. Unless this person is a raging alchoholic or chain smoker, I see no issue.

Look at Brittney Spears! Anyway, what you should look at is this person worth tolerating? Does this person have to potential to kick at least one of the habits? Do I see myself being with this person with these habits? What I think is that every person has a potential for something with the right influence. But then you have to think for yourself, do you think that the person with these habits really worth having in your life? Then you will have your answer. It is not a matter or being wise or unwise.

if you don't drink & smoke and don't like it, then yes it is unwise. the person who drinks and/or smokes is not going to appreciate you always complaining about it and your dating relationship will be a waste of both yours and his/hers time.

It depends on the person.

If you are confident in your morals not to smoke or drink, you can try to make them give up their habits. I think it's really sweet when a guy gives up smoking or drinking for his girlfriend!

On the other hand, if you are not confident, you may be influenced to get sucked into his dirty habits, too. Also, some people don't change. So it depends on both people.

Mostly, but it really depends on your lifestyle. Nobody can tell you what's unwise for your individual needs and wants. But drinking can lead to a lot of problems, so watch out on that one.

Yeah it can get volatile later in a relationship. drinking and smoking are both serious habits and are really hard to break. hey that's why your just dating him now. also let him know your expectations. there nothing wrong in telling him. just let him know that you hope that drinking and smoking doesn't get the best of you. there's more to a relationship if hes going to choose alcohol over you. hey hope things goes well for you! good luck and take care!

Dating is all about discovery of the "best match" for you. You will never find the "perfect mate". You have to take the good with the bad, or what YOU think is good and bad. There is obviously something you like about this person, at least enough to date them. It is up to you as to whether or not you want to continue to date them.

It depends on what you can stand and what you want. I don't mind dating someone who drinks as long as they know their limit. I won't date someone who smokes, I did it once and I couldn't stand kissing them it was disgusting. It's a personal choice that you have to make.

I don't think we should judge people. However, I do believe it's smart to surround ourselves with people that will motivate us to do the right thing and be healthy. Smoking is most certainly not healthy neither is drinking unless one's old enough and does it in moderation. Therefore, I think unless you're truly in love with this person you should probably not date them.

Personal preference. I don't mind a girl who drinks on occasion, but smoking? I think its disgusting and she can either quit or move on.
