No you shouldn't wash mushrooms. Just wipe them with paper towel to remove any dirt. It spoils the texture if they go into the pan wet.

The chefs will probably tell you 'no', but as a matter of habit, I rinse all fruit and vegetables before use, except bananas. It's up to you, really.

I was told that you just have to wipe them down. But I still prefer to wash them and then I pull the stalks off and peel the outer layer. Extreme I know but it the idea that they've been growing in the dirt and god knows what that I can't stomach.

Yes!! A lot of mushrooms are grown in straight manure since they are a fungi. Rinse well!

Any vegetable or fruit should be washed- you don't know where there coming from nor how many hands of touch them. Take the extra minute or 2 and play it safe.
