What does it mean if the gas pedal feels slightly scratchy rather than smooth while accelerating?

Dirty throttle body or sticking throttle cable or rusty pedal pivots. Clean out the throttle plate with carb cleaner and a rag or old toothbrush, grease the pedal pivots and check the cable for binding. Good luck.

maybe check a throttle position sensor and maybe idle air control valve
