Yes. I saw a chart once about how many calories you burn per hour with various exercises and walking is good because you can do it for a long time without stressing or tiring or injuring your body. You could walk for several hours, easily, but running the same amount would kill a lot of people.

YES. For over 3 months I've been walking at a good pace for an hour daily. I lost 35 pounds that way. Now I've joined a gym but I still do 40 minutes on the treadmill and then try some other equipment just for variety. It's a GREAT way to start.

If you are trying to loose weight , and walking is how you want to lose weight, you need to speed walk. when your speed walking you loose more weight than just walking and even running

It's not terribly strenuous, but it is still exercise and is good for you w/o being too hard on your joints. I'm sure you could do a Google search to see how many calories you burn walking.
