The PS3 can play UK PS3 games so you don't need to do anything.
As for PS2, PSX games, movies, you can't play the UK versions on the US PS3.

When comes to things like this every country has there own version you could say.
DVDR's are Region 0
America is Region 1
UK is Region 2
Africa is Region 3
Australia/NZ are Region 4
I'm sure there are more regions as well. What you need to do is search online for converter software. Or you can download a DVDRipper and reburn them into a Region 1 or a no region

PS3 games are region free, but PS1,2 games and movies aren't. You will be able to play UK PS3 games (PAL), but you won't be able to play UK PS1,2 games and movies.
