Regardless of their issues, you have to take care of your own needs and not subject yourself to mistreatment. You cannot make excuses. All of us have issues. We don't go around terrorizing or hurting people. It is your job to take care of you. It is their job to take care of them. You don't sacrifice yourself because someone else has issues. See a counselor please and get some support. There is no excuse for abuse. Most abusers will not stop the behavior without losing all they have. Do not listen to what they say, pay attention to what they do. If what they do is treat you or yours like crap, then pack up and get away and stay away until a professional clears them as safe. Seriously. Please go on line and check out the National Abuse Hotline and get educated about abuse so you have some understanding and can protect yourself. You can't fix them. They have to make their own happiness. You have to chose happiness for yourself. Most abusers have more than one mental issue and all kinds of garbage to wade through in their past, but they won't typically seek treatment unless the bottom drops out from under them and they lose it all or are court-ordered. Even then, it is rarely effective. If you are in a relationship with an abuser, understand that they will always be an abuser and that you are risking your life and ruining it by sticking around. It does not get better. It gets worse and worse and worse and sucks everyone around it down the drain if they let it. Seek help for you and let the one who has lost their mind find their own way. You control what you do. Focus on that. Go be happy and get away from the misery.

Well, not everyone with mental health issues does bad things or uses their issues as any kind of excuse...it is a minority that do that! Plenty of people do bad things who have absolutely no mental health issues. Whether a person has mental health issues or not, they may do something bad. But that does not mean that they are a wholly 'bad person'. Statistics actually state that people with mental health issues are actually less likely to commit a crime. This notion of people with mental health issues doing 'bad things' is an extremely harmful one to perpetuate. Any person at any time may do something bad...unfortunately it seems to be human nature.

If someone does bad things because they have mental health issues, that doesn't necessarily make them a bad person.

I think I do understand your question, Im not sure why others appear to havea problem with it! My sister has mental health issues, and she uses it sometimes to justify her bad behaviour, she thinks she can behave any way she likes BECAUSE she has mental health problems. Most people are not bad generally but people with mental health problems do tend to be manipulative and "bring it on" as and when it suits them. Well thats my experience of them anyway.

What is a bad person...to me it is anyone, who does things to me or my possessions that I do not like or want them to do.
I don't care if they have mental health issues or any other kind of issues. Whether they have control or not.

People do bad things when they are mentally ill or not.
You can't say all mentally ill people are bad, or otherwise.
And mental illness will not make a good person bad, only highlight certain traits which have always been there.

For all intents and purposes, it doesn't matter what they would do if they weren't who they are. You can believe anything you like about what that person might be like if they didn't have a mental illness, because it's basically like asking "would you like Justin Timberlake if you didn't hate pop music?" Sure, maybe, but who cares? That's not reality.

Well...define bad.
Being mentally ill does not make someone bad.
Or because someone is bad doesn't mean they are mentally Ill.

Unfortunately they will continue to do bad things, whether they know (which is likely) that they're doing them or not. It's your unfortunate decision to stay in their life or not.
