no . Many with diagnosis of schizophrenia are pretty low intelligence. I believe studies have shown that most are below average intelligence.

a person with diagnosis of Bipolar is far more likely to be a genius (there is no real definition though of genius)

John nash of 'a beautiful mind' probably should be referred to as a genius though.

Of course since the aetiology or cause of mental illness is not understood well by your profession it is conceivable that if mental illness was largely or significantly due to experiences then , you could hypothesise that schizophrenics genetically had the potential to be genius but this is mere speculation as the nature of genius is not understood nor schizophrenia particuarly well. There is so much ambiguity , wrong diagnosis changed diagnosis and multiple diagnosis.

what are we talking about when we say schizophrenic , really and truly you are taking the self reports of someone who you are saying is ill as the diagnostic criteria without recourse to any other examinations on the whole, bar say neuropsychometrics , or crude eeg and mri which generally show up nothing abnormal and if they did the diagnosis could not be a psychiatric one but an organic syndrome.

I think it's an individual thing... I think that schizophrenics are, like the rest of the population, able to be either intelligent, or stupid... the fact that they're schizophrenic doesn't have much to do with it...

Take for example... my husband has a mild form of schizophrenia... and he's very intelligent... however, his brother, with a more severe form of schizophrenia, is as dumb as a post...

Not usually.

I work for a mental health agency and we have hundreds of clients who are mentally retarded and have schizophrenia.

Schizophrenia has nothing to do with intelligence.

Most people with schizophrenia probably have average intelligence or lower than average.

There are state hospitals full of people with schizophrenia and most of them have ever done anything that is particularly creative or remarkable.

if we see both sides of the picture, then we must consider positive as well as negative parts of life. as a matter of fact, word are losing their conventional meanings, both scientific and literary ones. we never know how much change will occur just a few years in the future, let alone decades and centuries.
