I am studying engineering at Embry Riddle Daytona, with the intent on becoming an Aviator in the USN. I want to join the ROTC program to give me some exposure to the service whilst I am completing my studies.

I am confused by the citizenship component. I am not applying for an ROTC scholarship, just the training and experience. I have a greencard, my parents are american, I was born and raised in australia. I will be a citizen next year so the scholarships and commision will have to wait.

Exactly how far can I go with ROTC using my GC? I heard of people participating under their student visas also, whats the deal? Surely you must at least have a GC...

I want to highlight that I am not going for a scholarship. I am aiming for a non-scholarship program at this stage.

I know that only citizens are eligable for scholarships and commision.

I heard GC holders can participate in the ROTC program at their college for up to 2 years, then they cannot continue without citizenship... is this true?

it rather is a danger. How definitely a danger relies upon no count if the non-greencard holder got here to the U. S. with a visa or without one. however the U. S. citizen can sponsor the better half for a greencard. you certainly ought to get a greencard till you could now grow to be a citizen. except the non-greencard holder had certainly one of those diverse visas i could anticipate that the non-greencard holder isn't at the instant residing legally interior the U. S.. even although visa overstay is forgiven interior the spouses persons citizen, yet you prefer some information you had a visa. in case you in no way had a visa you will ought to bypass away the U. S. till you could now get a greencard. even although you would be banned for 10 years, yet whilst your better half can get an I-601 waiver granted you could come back till now then. the U. S. citizen additionally desires to fulfill the earnings requirement (a hundred twenty five% above poverty decrease for correct kinfolk length) and there desires to be adequate money to pay the distinctive costs.

To receive a commission in the US Military, you MUST be a citizen... you must ALSO be a citizen to enroll in the NROTC program.

A "green card" does NOT meet the requirements.

If you're parents are Americans, you should not have to have a green card. You are automatically an American Citizen, along with being an Ozzie citizen. My oldest daughter was born in England but is an American with her certificate at the American Embassy in London. Yours is probably at the Embassy in Perth? Anyway, I dont think you need a greencard since your a Yank.
