The disciples of Jesus and his early follower were led to believe that he was to come back and save them from the tyranny of Rome during their lifetimes. In order to believe this he must have told them that he would do this.

Why did he let them down?

It was simply a misinterpretation. Jesus never said he would come back in a physical kingdom. But when he spoke of the kingdom of Heaven, his apostles interpreted that as being the kingdom of heaven would reign on earth.

Jesus Christ was to save them from their sins and to bring the gospel to both Jews and the rest of the world. Jews thought that the savior would deliver them from Rome, but that was just a Jewish expectation.

Jesus fullfilled every thing the scriptures fortold about him.

Jesus was preparing a place for me and the other believers...

John 14

1Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.

3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

Hebrews 13

5Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

6So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

He didn't.

He gave them the Gift of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost!

And NO-He NEVER ay that He was going to save them from the tryanny of Rome-That's not Scriptural!

he said this:

Acts 1:7-11 (New International Version)

7He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

9After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight.

10They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. 11"Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."

He hasn't let them down. He just said He would return. He didn't give a day or time for His return. Only that He would. Anyway, that is not His decision as to when, that is God's decision.

Jesus did not let anyone down. The Apostles and early Christians were mistaken in their believe Jesus was coming back during their earthly lives.

It is a curious belief considering all that Jesus taught about staying alert because no one knows the timing of His return.

He never said that. They twisted his words to mean what they wanted them to (just like many preachers do today.)
