I have had three boxer puppies beofre this one so this is my third. Plus my parents are on thier second. When boxers are puppies they tend to grow to fast and start limpong due to joint pain. My Vet did warn against this. He says that fluid build up is the culprit and he has stoped doing surgury on this type of injury because after a few weeks the fluid leaves the area and the dogs heal and surgury tends to be a waste of the owners money. So back to my question, what dose of baby asprin do I give her. He told me but I forgot. He is Not open on the weekend and she has a slight limp again. I know its not a real bad injury because the swelling and limp come and go. If she plays hard she limps for a few hours and then it goes away... She has never yelped and it does go aways after a few hours. But I want to be able to make her comfy in the meantime. Please help if you know the dose.

to clear things up MY Vet says it is usual for fast growing puppies. And I feed all my animal Eukanuba for large bread puppies.

I gave my 60 lb. dog a whole baby aspirin hidden in a little ball of cheese, so I guess a half or a quarter of one depending on the pup's weight.

First make sure you are using a food for large breed puppies. I have Rhodesian Ridgeback, and like most fast growing pups, they can have joint discomfort as well during the first year of growing. We feed raw, but others in our litter have fed Canidae: All Life Stages with great success and less pain for the pup.
As for pain controle, we avoid asparin due to stomache issues. We used very very small doeses of Arnica and an Arnica wrap. This brought any swelling down and gave the pup a quick recovery. I would suggest researching this alternative. Don't just do it because someone on Yahoo says so. Arnica can be a heart excellerator if taken in large doses.
If you are hooked on the idea of asparin. Ring your vet and ask. It is the best bet.
How old and what weight is your pup?

Sorry, but if a vet told you al lthat you posted you need to find a different vet...you were told a lot of crap...also I would be a whole lot more careful of the breeder I get my Boxer puppies from (it sounds like you may be getting them from a less then responsible breeder and may be dealing with genetic issues)..I would also look into what you are feeding and what activity you are allowing your puppies to do.
My guess is that you are feeding a low quality food with a high protein level. I would also venture to guess that you may be over exercising your puppies.
Do NOT give ANY asprin to your puppy until you get the correct dosage from your vet..do not follow dosing info you find on the net...it could harm your puppy!!!

I've owned boxers my whole life and never had a boxer pup with joint pain. In fact our current boxer (6 years old) is the first boxer we've had with knee pain, and we found out he had torn his knee ligament.
I would get a second opinion from a different vet. I have never heard of this problem in boxer pups. As for a correct dosage on baby aspirin, I couldn't tell you for sure, but you're probably okay with half a tablet.

Normal puppies DO NOT get a fluid build-up in their knees!!! That is NOT normal, and IF a vet told you that they are full of CRAP!!!!
An INJURY can cause a problem, and would need vet care...not aspirin. She should be put on crate rest until you can see the vet MONDAY!!!!!!!!!
I have known MANY Boxers in my life and NEVER heard of this as "common" in puppies.
Fluid in a joint is NOT normal, and they can limp from many other causes!

I think it's about 5 milligrams per pound. How much does she weigh? A single baby aspirin usually has 80 milligrams but read the bottle! So with that equation a whole baby tablet would be for a dog that's about 16 to 25 lbs. If you don't know her weight don't give her aspirin! In high levels aspirin is toxic.

It's important to write down important information when you get it. Your vet is the one who knows the dose - anyone on here who isn't a vet will only be guessing. Leave it until he gets back to his office - he has already explained that it is not serious.
