i grew up using DOS and Shell programs,,,,
i have liked windows for the ease of use and the compatibility, however with this last version of windows (MS Vista) i have started learning Linux Ubuntu, i like it is simple and easy to use. I find myself enjoying the learning experience. Sure there are different ways of doing things, but at a savings of over $500. I can learn. Oh, and Big Brother is not embedded into my OS now, nor do i have to deal with the draconian measures that MS has gone to. I really find it amazing the number of people that don't READ the EULA.
There are literally thousands of free software titles out there, and i have found that anything that i want to do on windows there is a program to do the same thing on Linux, so if there is an argument that windows has more software, that does not really hold any water. Sure there are some games that are window only, but that is also changing in the everyday world.
Linux also is becoming very user friendly, just as easy to use as Windows. Sure there are some different ways about it, but it is just as easy.

It relies upon in what ability you propose. the likely state of affairs, in our money-pushed international is that it will the two be stumbled directly to be unlawful with the aid of fact of a few as yet unwritten regulation that announces that all and sundry computers ought to run Microsoft domicile windows (hi, people who've the gold make the regulations), or patent-trolls will thoroughly field Linux into some nook the place no new valuable aspects that make it suitable could properly be further. even although, if a guy of blended race has purely been elected President of the US, GNU/Linux could have an incredibly vivid destiny certainly. that's not substantial although. An asteroid could wreck the planet next week. Or some wing-nut non secular extremist ought to start a nuclear disaster day after today. Or HIV ought to mutate and grow to be airborne.

I actually prefer Linux for a number of reasons. However, there are some problems with my linux-hardware combination so I sometimes have sound problems (no sound and I have not yet figured out what the problem is). I also like to play some Windoze games.
If it were not for games and skype (voice calls) I would be able to do everything I want to do from Linux, easier, and more productively (I think!).

In my opinion i would go with Windows. I hear Linux is a really cheap or free OS. Now with Windows Vista out, its a lot more organized with the Windows Sidebar and all the new features added in Windows Vista. Even though Windows is a lot more expensive to upgrade or buy, it's worth it.

Depends on what it's being used for. I do like Back Track but on a regular day use Windows XP.

I use them all. No one OS is any better or worse than any other. It all depends on which one you like AND what you intend to use it for.
BTW, you are going to get a lot of biased answers here.
