I agree, you need to have another plan in place of the basketball before you just decide to quit. They probably want you to play basketball because they know that, for one, it keeps you busy and out of trouble, and two, it is good exercise. Pick something that you would like to do and offer that in exchange for basketball. They just don't want you laying around making the computer or your t.v. your only choices in life.

Just quit, you are the one that should make that kind of decision. You must be very young to have to do something like that because your parents insist you do. Do you HAVE to select some sort of sport? WHY do you parents insist? Quit and keep out of trouble and get something else to do that you enjoy. It does NOT have to be some kind of sport. There are other things to do with your time, you know.

i dont think you can ever convince them otherwise. they are probably trying to live thier dreams of basketball through you.
the same thing happened to me, my mum wanted to be a teacher but became a nurse instead.
she bugged me for 4 years of my teenage life to give teaching a try, even though i had other plans with my life. so after i graduated with my music degree from uni i decided to do a teaching course.
they throw me straight into it, where i like you, hated it with a passioin!!!
i hated it so much i was crying everday and got so depressed i tried to commit suicide because it was too much for me to bere.
i know it sounds stupid that i could commit suicide for something which appears to be so little.. but you needed to be in my situation to understand.
anyway after the whole tramatic experience, strangly i did manage to qualify and i decided to give up. i told my mum if i ever went back into teaching again i would make sure that i did die the next time i tried to kill myself because apart from quiting thats the only way i could escape it.
and my mum just said.. no you cant quit stick with it.
WTF was all i was thinking..
...my point is you cant change your parents views.
needless to say i quit and im doing something else.
just negoite with your parents.. tell them you have tried what they wanted and you hate it, its making you mersable.
if they say no then tell them you can choose to do something else other than b-ball.
and if they still wont listen, then just dont go!

True story:
When I was a kid...I convinced my Mom to pay for "gymnastics" classes in order to meet girls...
It turned out...this "Academy of Gymnastics" separated the dudes from the girls...
Ah! The Best Laid Plans gone awry...
(I simply told her half way through that I was miserable, and didn't want to go anymore...and so she let me quit...you just have to really "act up" the misery level in your facial expression and posture, and they (hopefully) will see that you are miserable, and let you quit...)
You can lead a horse to water...but you can't make it use a straw...

You need to tell them that you are not enjoying it and its making you unhappy. Tell them another sport you think you would enjoy. I think they will understand because they want you to be happy. If you hate it that much, you shouldnt do it. Maybe finish out the season and then tell them. Good luck.

Tell your parents that you will join another sport. If you want to quit 'cuz you're too busy...then tell them.

you need to talk to them in a rational tone and explain why you dislike basketball so much. If you keep calm your parents are more likely to listen to your plea and understand and let you quit. Good luck.

Join another sport so it would be easier to tell them. Then they'll have know choice but to let you quit.
I say you should join either soccer or baseball!
Good Luck
