Does intensity have to do with this passage of agape and philo? I assume "some", but what has more to do with our fruit, and the conforming our will, direction, and our hearts being tuned to his will. Jesus was changing Peter and we're also to come to him like little children and to take on loving God spiritually. How does knowing agape and phileo love help us to love God? In one sense, at the time Jesus and Peter had this conversation there was a dawining of light that made a difference between Peter's love for Jesus and one another. Also Jesus was influencing Peter before and after this. Is this a sanctifying process; a changing of our sights, and does this have to do with denying ourselves daily, taking up our cross and following him? This seems to have much to do with our daily walk; another verse is... Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of [your] mind, that ye may prove what [is] the good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Thank you Kar; this is so edifying; like a fine tuning. Our intended will and everything that we're involved in contributes towards whether or not our our hearts being trued toward Jesus.

It sounds like he's insecure. I think I would sit him down and talk to him. Help him to feel safe with you. It may be that he's going to need time to believe that you will stick with him. Probably the only thing you can really do is keep reassuring him. It's really not unreasonable he feels this way.
peace

response: (playfully).....oh, 'bout that much (use you thumb and first finger to show a span of about 1/2 inch).
If he keeps getting that answer - he may stop asking.
