I have read that the 80g model suffers in backwards compatibility due to the removal of the emotion engine chip, however I only have a handful of ps2 games that I still play. If I switch to the 80g I can also get Motorstorm (included.) Has anyone heard if hardware in general is better on one version or the other?

keep the 60 gig, motorstorm is not good. If you need to just upgrade the hard drive. Technical wise there are no significant differences.

Keep the 60GB, it has better value, since it plays almost all PS2 games, while 80GB plays much less. PS3's Hdd can be replaced with any SATA 5400RPM 2.5" HDD. 250GB will cost you around 170$ on www.newegg.com
