I had picked him up last Spring. Unfortunately, he was killed by a car an hour ago... Should I feel guilty about this death? I should have treated him better. Why God took him from me? :(

I am so sorry this happened to you, and of course your cat. I am a cat lover, I have 5 and I would be as upset as you if anything happened to any of them. The only thing I can offer that may help you through this is to let you know that it was not your fault. Weather you had let him out or not, something was more wrong with him then just the flea problem. Cats do not just die of flea infestation, unless it is truly, and I mean truly bad. He may have had something inside of him going on that you would have had no way of knowing. We do not usually take our pets to the vet for a check up unless we know something is going on with them. It really is not your fault so stop beating yourself up for it and know that you loved him and would have not let anything happen to him if you had known what was really wrong. He is in cat heaven playing with the cats that I have lost, and he is having a great time there.

When Dixie died last spring I spent the next 6 months crying everyday. The guilt was overwhelming. I let her out and she never came back. Coyotes got her I think. I know it's hard to not feel guilty- your cat was in your care and was killed. Take it as a learning experience and vow never to let your cat get into a dangerous situation again. That won't bring your kitty back but it will ease your mind knowing that any other cat you have won't be let out to be run over.
This poem gets me through when I feel sad about Dixie. maybe it will help you too.

On an average indoor cats live six years longer than ones that are allowed outside to roam. Not to mention they upset the bird population, as they are not a wild preditor.

If he was indoors all the time a car would not have killed him.

I don't know how much guilt you want to assume, you were his owner.

Sorry for your loss. No it is not your fault., but next time you have a cat, please do not let it outside. They can be killed by dogs, hit by cars, or catch diseases from other animals.
