I have a Special Forces contract. 1 week into basic I was told my SF training would be put on hold & I'd be deployed to Iraq. Anyone else in this situation or been there?

I'm now 4 weeks into basic but home on Exodus. There are 3 of us out of 52 who are supposed to be SF. They're talking about deploying the whole unit.

First of all... How are you using the internet 1 week into basic? Army is going soft for sure.
If you do infact have SFAS in your contract, they must honor that. Your Drill Sergeants are just messing with your head, unless you are National Guard or Reserves, then they can put any training you have on hold for a deployment, and then re-schedule you for after you return.

WEll you are an 11B or C not sure and then you wouldve went to airborne then SF selection or whatever its called then SF school WHatever i wanted to do it as well but forgot the process

the problem is is THIS you are NOTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT even out of basic training yet so you have not been awarded any MOS whatsoever you are stil a recruit and they can edit it based on the needs of the ARMY. The army doesnt have the time or money right now and they can do as they please, if you read your contract more carefully it STATES that they do not have to honor your MOS prefrence they DO NOT. Its a wish list.

But from your reading i believe that they will just after you are done with your 1st deployment which is probably better anyway a BOOT has a low chance of making it in SF selection

Don't believe the rumors you hear at basic. The Army does not deploy individuals, it deploys units. You are not yet part of a unit so there would be no way of predicting when you could deploy. You will get to go to AB school and then SF selection where the average 18X contract lasts about 8 days. Then you will be transferred down the street to the 82nd AB and deploy when they deploy.

You have to do your MOS training. Unless it's infantry which i hope to god your not using internet in basic at sand hill. Your Drill sergeants can't speak for your unit. They have no idea if you will deploy or not.

EDIT: As the other guy pointed out exodus. nice catch. Just a afterthought: Deploying to Iraq would give you valuable experience before hitting SF. It's not a cakewalk.

Your contract is being honored. You are IN the Army, that is the first and most important part. The needs of the Army come FIRST. You will get your special forces school when the Army can send you. Right now you are needed overseas. The first thing you need to learn about the military is the mission at hand comes first, not you. You swore you would serve your country and the Army, that is what you are doing. Obviously Iraq is the priority of the country and the Army right now and you guys in boot camp are being trained up to go relieve a bunch of really tired and burned out Soldiers that have been fighting over there for years now. They have all been waiting on people like you and your buddies to give them a break. The Army never said you are never going to your SF school just that they need you someplace more important right now. If you didn't want to go to Iraq, why did you sign up for the Army first and SF second? Where do you think the SF guys are right now? They are also in Iraq. You need to suck it up and do what the Army and country needs of you right now. We are all doing whatever we need to do to get this war done and over with. Us Sailors are on the ground in Iraq also augmenting Soldiers. Sailors belong at sea not sweating it out playing Soldier. It is because EVERYONE is pitching in that new guys like you get to go to Iraq before your SF school. You are needed plain and simple. You should be honored to serve no matter where the Army sends you that is what you signed up for. Your school will come along in the future don't worry about it, but now you have to look at the bigger picture which is NOT all about you.

I doubt if they would know at that point of training about anything having to do with post-graduation training and wouldn't have deployment orders cut since you might not make it through recruit training or might get delayed. Breach of Contract-Not unless your contract guaranteed you would go immediately after completion of initial training; they probably could deploy you and then bring you back and put you through Special Forces training and yes that would full fill your contract and they would have honored it.

Just because you signed a contract for SF does not mean you will be accepted. The contract is non-binding which means it is conditioned upon your performance during basic.

Does not look like a contract problem to me, your not being denied SF training or assignment, it will be scheduled at the need of the army, not at your convenience.

Contact IG or jag and they will probably tell you why it is not a breach of contract.

If it is a breach the Army will have to live up to it or you can get out.

I'm guessing there is something in the contract that says they only have to send you before your contract is up.

you cannot be deployed until after you complete your Primary MOS training. if that means they send you to school, and deploy you before allowing you to go to SF training that is NOT breach of contract.
