I know fresh pasta is ok to freeze but since gnocchi contains potato, am wondering if that would come out a bit mushy or would be ok?

No, it will not become any more mushy than it is to begin with, it freezes just fine. Store in a regular freezer though. Never use the freezer compartment of your refrigerator as the self defrosting feature (a heater) tends to dehydrate things quickly (freezer burn).

It's the only way to keep them fresh though, so you're going to have to freeze them or eat them. =] I would suggest eat them because fresh gnocchi is just *wonderful* and the frozen one is a little...less wonderful. =p
If you're preparing them for a dinner party or something, i suggest buying them on the actual day.

They'll freeze, but it's never quite like fresh.

As you say, it is kind of soft and mushy to begin with so I don't think it will freeze well.
