not all cats do.
simease hate it most of the time. circle faced simease are more funny and weard than nice. which i have one.
a house cat, if they were born in a home a 70% chance they are going to be wanted to be petted.
Onthe other hand. cats are still social animals. they like attention weather they like being petted or not. xthey need attention. like, brushing, cat treats and some catknip.
but, they are social animals.

I think it feels good to them to get some sweet rubbin.
Cats also like to roll around on the ground and against other objects, so it may simply feel good. Like a soft massage, or as a lot of people like to be touchy ( i know not all but like one answer said not all cats like to be petted )
That's a cool question though.

Hi -
I thought that was an interesting question too and I did a little internet research. One source said, and I think this is very plausable, that a kitten gets licked by her mother while she's feeding, etc, and this is was the stroking motion of a hand over her fur is pleasant to them because it reminds them of mom! So, if she/he lets you pet her/him - then you're trusted! I liked that explanation!
