It doesn't matter, which version you've got. Playstation Network is free. Register there and surf the web, play online, browse PS Store (there is a project like Second Life - PLaystation Home coming soon). As for the PS3 version:
1). 20GB has no chrome trim, no memory card reader and no wi-fi. Not manufactured anymore. Has the best backwards compatibility with PS2 games due to Emotion Engine (PS2's CPU) and Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU) installed.
2). NTSC 60GB has the same backwards compatibility as 20GB version, also has memory card reader and wi-fi. Has a chrome trim.
3). 80GB - extended memory, but reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games, it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played. Available only in NTSC regions.
4). 40GB - can't play PS2 games at all (all PS2 chips were removed), has 2 USBs instead of 4, no memory card reader, has wi-fi. Avalable in black and white colors. White is on sale only in Japan. Uses 65nm technology (lower power consumption). Improved cooling system. It's the latest version. 40GB doesn't support SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc).
5). PAL 60GB - reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games. it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played.
Wi-fi included in all models, except 20GB.

PS3 online is FREE i repeat FREE for all versions of the PS3. You register a user name etc on the ps3 an in most games you use this to play online (note some games get you to register for a seperate account with them eg winning eleven 2008).
As for the wi-fi thing, the 40,60 and 80gb all have built in wi-fi to connect to a wireless network for online play/internet/store etc but all the versions, including 20gb, have erthernet pots which allow you to play online via that. You do not need to install anything or pay for anything to play online
good luck :)

Hi again
yes ps3 online is free on any version(PS3 20,40,60 & 80GB)
if u dont have wireless online u can just get a long ethernet cable http://www.mytimeforce.com/buy_accessori... and connect it to the ps3(USB).
if u have done that,do the following.
Just go into settings, all the way down to network stettings, click on set up internet connection, and then click wired. Follow the onscreen instructions by clicking, next, next, until you click finish. You should be fine then and your ps3 will be online.
If you want to get on using wireless, meaning you have a wireless router connected to your modem, then you can go a head and go into settings, network settings, set up internet connection, and click on "Wireless". Follow the onscreen instructions by clicking next. If you have a encryption on your router, you can go ahead and type in the password so your PS3 can connect to the router.
Click on finish to complete network set up and test the internet connection.
after that u can play online/browse on the internet/download many things from PLAYSTATION STORE http://www.us.playstation.com/PS3/Store
for more u can just go on http://www.us.playstation.com/
or http://uk.playstation.com/
ENJOY
