Johnny Weir started at age 12, and look at him! All I have to say it will not come as easy for you. You will need to work hard, but I think anybody has a chance.

Yeah, there are famous skaters that started as teens. Also depends on your natural talent and how tall and heavy your build will be when the growth spurts comes along. Look at your parents and if they are that tall but never did any exercise and ate very poorly when they were young, expect to outgrow them. Height is more of a problem for ladies, but being too tall can make doing triples hard for men too.

And no, nobody becomes a senior in just 1 year. It takes an average of 10 years to reach Senior level, so don't think 13 is too late to start. Heck, I started when I was almost age 15 with a back problem and I skate far better than most skaters in Mexico despite not skating everyday and with several bad coaches.

Expect to be able to land most of the singles (but very sloppily) in 1 year if you start from scratch which is the average of what most people achieve in that time. You won't start to look like a polished intermediate-novice skater until you turn 17 if you work hard enough.

Good luck!

1) Well it is not to late to start figure skating even adults start figure skating when they are like 30!! 2)Ya you can do any competitions lke me im 12 and my friend I share this account with my friend is 13 and skates and do shows an competitions. Shows are fun because it isn't a competition but its for fun. As long as you practice you can win a medaland stuff in small competitions. 3) Well they should be half a size bigger than your shoe size or whatever fits the best to the point where it is snug but not to tight and if you still don't know the people that work at the store they would help you out. Jacksons are probably the best beginner skates that usually only cost $60-120 dollars. When you get to higher skatting levels they will cost more and more each time about 200 or more dollars but beginner skates aren't that much. 4)Well I know how ya feel i started skating when I was 10 and there was another 10 year old and everyone else was like 7! Private lessons depend on how long your lesson is and who your coach is. I pay $40 for half an hour but other places cost $40 for a whole hour.So it depends. 5) When I started skating I didn't have a dancing background and I am doing very well. As long as you are coordinated and have pretty good balance you will do pretty well. You don't need dancing experience but if you want you could take ballet lessons but it isn't mandetory. Other qualities you need to have you can gain during your experience of skating like flexibility and stuff. I hope you consider figure skating because it is really fun!!!

im 14 now but i started when i was 12 i've been skating 1year and 11 1/2 mouths so almost 2 years and im wkin on my almost all my doubles and i started competing in bigger competitions!!! a couple of mouths ago i placed 4 at regional in non-qualifying and next year my goal is 2 make it in the top 4 and go on 2 sectionals and then nationals and then hopefully start being invited to like grand prix comps.!!!

just some things 2 let u kno ur goin 2 get frustrated but never give up (dont quit) i quit 4 a week a couple times and u cant do that it really slows ur skating down remember 2 always have fun and wk ur hardest every time u step out on the ice ur goin to have some bad days but everyone does!!!

Well I suppose if you train really really REALLY hard. You really have to work hard and I mean like skate almost everyday for 3 hours.(maybe not that much, well you might) If you want to make to olympics it will take years like 5 years at the least it is hard to even do that but it is possible. If you have a good coach and stuff and really work then i should see you in the olymipcs. Like skater19 said, you literally have to eat.sleep, skate! If you work hard you will be there in no time!! Not in a year but in year you an get all of the basics of skating and maybe to like freestyle 2 or 3 or something. (ISI) Good luck to you!! :D

well most skaters do skate younger but hey, i started when i was 13 and i can do almost a double flip-toeloop. I can do laybacks, combo, sit, camels, scratch, backspins.i am a spinner not an jumper lol. So it is really up to you, if your are so much in love with the sport like me, then yea practice makes perfect;.
now competing with the olypics is a whole different story. You must have to start competitions then get recomended.
sO GOOD LUCK!!!!!

you will have to train very hard and live, eat, breathe and sleep skating. One year is probably a bit optimistic but anything is possible if you work hard. good luck let me know how it goes.

Well.... I believe you could do it if you get plenty of practice and are very passionate about it! I started January 2007 and I'm 16 and I'm almost on my Axel, but I'm not very far compared to skater my age, but then again they started in elementary school. Plus, I don't practice as much as I should.... My coach started at the age of 11 and is the best skater at my rink so I believe you could become a great skater at this age. Hope this helps!! Good luck!! :o)

if you have a good coach and are determined, maybe but you got to realize that your competition has been in training since they were 5 or 6. good luck to you
