i have recently brought a new hd tv and i can play my ps3 games on it perfectly i can also play blue ray discs i tried puttin a dvd in and it simply says no signal

do i need to change my configuration on my ps3 or do i need to buy an extra scart lead ???

no sorry dude ps3s simply cant play dvds bad huh i think xbox 360 can but it plays hd dvd but the ps3 can play blu ray and hd dvd but the xbox 360 can only play hd dvd hd dvds are cheaper than blu ray but the quality is worse but i guess its not that bad wen the ps3 can play both .i guess it cant play dvds cos there becoming out dated and i know u probably want 2 play all the dvds u own on it but it just doesnt play it . i would suggest burning your dvds on2 a blank blu ray disk but there really expensive so it wouldnt be worth it unless u had limeted edition dvds that u couldnt find anywhere thats about it sorry i cound be of more help if u need more questions answered on on the ps3 my email is al.nitriouse@gmail.com

Not necessarily. At CES 2008 (Jan.7-9), several companies left HD-DVD contracts in the dust. Paramount and Warner Bros. both switched to Blu-Ray format. Without these key companies backing Toshiba and HD-DVD, it's going to collapse. All companies will turn to Blu-Ray, and reproduce all of the HD-DVD movies onto Blu-Ray, so your library should become larger, soon. I would estimate that this will only take from 6-12 mos. for HD-DVD to die and for all of the HD-DVDs to be remade on Blu-Ray. I know, i'm excited, too!

i've got 60GB ps3 and it definetely plays dvd's - even if the settings say HD - it would automatically change while u watch the dvd...
the dvd must be from another region or something, if not go to the store you bought it from and demand a refund!!!good luck!!!

PS3 can play DVD. May be you put DVDs from different region? DVDs are supported by PS3. Here is the proof:

ps3 can play DVDs,CDs,Blue Ray.if it is a used PS3,the problem was probably there wen u bought but if its new,then go and ask were u bought it.

r u sure that its not a HD DVD,coz ps3 doesnt support them.

have you tryied resetting the system? it should play them. i play bd,regular dvd's even burnt dvd's and it plays them(have the 60gb not that i think it matters)
