I have a dvd which has now scratches and am wondering if i can copy it to a blank dvd in order to be playing it as it can only see it but not play.

hi there you can use very fine wet/dryabrasive paper if the scratch is real bad then use chrome cleaner or a paint cutting restorer like T-Cut to finnish the polishinng. If the scratch isnt too deep just use T-Cut and a soft cloth. Using these methods i have yet to find a dvd or cd i cant restore. just take your time with it and you will get it to read again then you could make a back-up copy of it to be on the safe side.
if you want a quicker fix then buy one of these.

the above poster is wrong. People really need to do research before answering. You can indeed repair a scratched disc not with software but with hardware. There is something called skipdoctor you can buy it in any gamestor or online via this link:

You can get a free download from CD Recovery Toolbox Free,just download it onto your computer and you can recover
info from scratched disks and burn to a blank disk.
Hope this works, I think it will solve your problem.

Do NOT use abrasive paper. That is uninformed tripe. I have succesfully used Brasso metal polish and there are repair services out there for £2/ disc, no repair no fee.
