what does a typical australian do on a typical saturday night?!!?

i'm an american/english girl living in italy!

ANASTACIA i think you have some issues...come on...every country does different things....
in italy where i live everybody goes dancing and drinking but i find it quite boring so i was just asking around!
i wasn't even thinking kangaroos and stuff like that..I LOVE AUSTRALIA FROM AFAR ;)

Well Australia is no different to anywhere else in the world people go and do whatever they happen to feel like at the time.

There is no typical Aussie let alone typical activity. Australia is probably the most multicultural place on earth so there are lots of people continuing their cultural heritgage on Saturday nights with singing, dancing, perhaps even some communal cooking for festivities/celebrations and so on. In metro and regional centres there is no typical activity... the extroverts tend to be party animals and party, the quiter types head for movies, concerts and so on.
Some people have grown up in families and with friends where alcohol is not just acceptable but considered some kind of validation of (supposed) normality or something- those people tend to drink heavily, often binge drinking whereever they go!. Others with a different social upbringing still drink but only a few "social drinks".

So the typical Aussie saturday night is to be doing whatever makes you happy at the time.

Anastasia had a few good points but just went on about it in the wrong way.(some Americans can be a little naive at times) In Australia we do lots of things on a typical weekend I would assume that they are the same as in America IE/ nightclubs, bars, beautiful places to see (i am from Sydney) like the harbour, I myself am usually studying, rock climbing, reading, listening to music, going to dinner lots of things really.

I once had an American lady say to me "You Aussies are such a cute race" I still chuckle about it to this day.

Italy sounds lovely.... I am jealous. Dancing with a bunch or relaxed Europeans sounds great!!! Want to swap for a few weeks??

My friends and I usually go out for dinner, drinks and dancing. Pubs, clubs and everything in between!

Sometimes we have a shin dig at home with a BBQ, good music, top friends and plenty of refreshments.

We also occasionally go to be race events like the Roma races, in QLD. Big weekend event in the country with horse racing and plenty of night time fun!

So probably the same as what most 24 year old girls do the world over.

When I was there, it seemed drinking and getting pissed (drunk) was high on the list. Sounded like great fun to me, so I heartily participated. But I was 23 at the time.

We go out and socialise, drinking, clubbing, dinner with families, movies, wining and dining, fishing, camping....
Pretty much what all other countries do.
Then, when it is late at night , we all ride our kangaroos home.

*confussled look* what kinda question is that? we ride our Kangaroos, and have a BBQ. Goodness me, we do what most Americans do. One unique thing we do is naked drop bear wrestling. Sometimes we do it in jelly or mud. Dangerous (drop bears are killers) but exhilarating.
