Wine once opened will begin to lose flavor after about 6 hours. IT can be stored at room temp for 24 hours and refrigerated for up to about 2 weeks. It will not taste as good as it did that first night but it is still drinkable.

As for knowing if it is good or not is subject to your tastes of course. Some wines that are thought to be wonderful tasting I can't stand. For example I had a Chardonnay a little while back that came highly recommended, but tasted to me like I was licking a pepper mill.

you can keep red wine for years! you can definately keep it overnight. Red wine is best kept in a controlled environment, if can go bad while being stored, when goes bad it is called 'corked' (trust me you'll know if it is)
You know you've got a good redwine when you have to decant it (it has floaties ;) )
I can't tell you what wines are good you have to discover this for yourself as everyone has very distinct wine tastes.
You should go to a tasting, or even host one at your house, this is a good way to discover the types of wine you most enjoy.
Hope this helps...

It will keep overnight with no problem. However, it will start losing and continue to lose its flavor over time.

I like a good dry wine such as Zinfandel, Cab Sauv, Petite Syrah, etc. I love Chambourcin.
