Freud was very pessimistic about the human race and regarded most people as 'trash' who were destined to have lives of unhappiness. The Freudian subconscious stored all our disgusting aspects that were hidden by a thin veneer called 'civilisation'. Freud was obsessed with sex and repression of urges.

Jung praised the human spirit which sought to constantly face its dark and light sides. The Jungian unconscious held our noble dreams as well as our inner demons. It was a mixed bag that needed to be affirmed to be healthy.
