Yes, we are ultimately responsible for our own lives. Although, we can't control everything that happens to us, (for example becoming blind) we can control the way we chose to react to those circumstances (feel sorry for yourself or move on). While some things may slow us down we have the power to overcome.

Of course we are. There are outside influences that affect our lives and outcomes. However we have the power to either let them control us or to take control. Ultimately we have to look at ourselves for success or failure in any aspect of our lives.
