I agree I know so many great rotts.
heres a story for you. I went to animal control a few weeks ago and saw the most BEAUTIFUL female rottweiler. I went and begged to adopt her (about 2 years old, great coat)
They informed me that they do not adopt out rotts or pitts and they are put down immediately, and there was no way I could get her, but she was mean anyway. I told them she was very nice, and licked me. They said she was barked and growling when they got her out of the 10 x 10 pen she was kept in her whole life.
I think the dog was probably afraid and it had an excellent temperament. The people there also todl me "all rotts are bad" and that "German shepherds are great dogs" while the most hilarious thing is my GSD has had various aggression issues but all the rotts I know are great.
thanks for standing up for the breed.

Hey, i agree that rotts, pits, and lots of other "bull type" breeds can be awesome pets- and much of that is the person who raises and socializes the animal, but one thing that is generally overlooked is that bad breeding is to blame for much of it.- even if you do your best, and your dog is from a line of aggressive dogs, that trait is proven to be genetic, so another reason why someone needs to ONLY support a good breeder when purchasing any dog.
Also, good breeders are very hard to get a dog from, if everyone supported only good breeders, there would not be the problem today with dogs dying in humane societies around the country- every pet would be fixed, no unwanted pups produced, and all of the dogs who were bred by the good breeders, would have a definate much more stable temperament.
All dogs can be aggressive, believe me- if a chihuahua were the size of a rottie- we would all be in trouble. Part of the reason their are so many concerns about these so called "dangerous breeds" is that when they do bite or attack people (and ALL kinds of dogs do- prob. more chihuahua bites than any other breed) the rotts/pitts etc. have the ability to actually kill a person, and the smaller breeds, prob. not.- so yes it is a huge responsibility to own one.

I own a 3 year old rottie rescue. I was told she has some issues, but I wanted to work with her. After the proper training, she's the best dog I've ever owned.
There are all kinds of dogs out there with problems due to bad ownership, but the rotts,& pits get the worse press. Nothing media worthy about a poodle or any small breed attacking and biting...

Here here!!! I totally agree. I have a female Rott, almost 6 years old, and the biggest, gentlest, baby I have ever seen!
She loves people! She wiggles almost right out of herself when she sees people, cause she just loves attention.
It is the owner, how they are raised, if they are mistreated, etc. I love my big girl...and so does everyone that meets her. Even the people that are initially afraid of her (the ones that ask what kind of dog I have, and when I tell them a Rotti...of course the first thing is ooh, they're mean!), end up loving her because she is such a big baby. Thank you! It is good to know that there are others out there that know what a wonderful breed these dogs really are when raised correctly!

I just met one that will not fight. She has been attacked by other dogs and just stands there. Does nothing.
You cannot always blame it on the owners. Some of these dogs are rescue dogs with issues, some are provoked or being protective of it's owners or property.
I wish more small dog attacks would make the news. I have been bit by far more small dogs than big (I work with dogs). And never once by a rottie.

Rotties are Great dogs , and so are pitbulls
its a shame that the moment they set foot in a shelter they get put down as the media and STUPID owners have given them such a bad rep that no one wants to adopt these wonderful dogs
Janey- but any dog provocated by a child or other dog might attack just like us humans we might get mad by what someone does , yer we cant bite them but we still get mad . thats why NO CHILD should ever be left alone with a dog , you never know what the child might do.

I totally agree that in most cases the owners cause the dog to become aggressive. I also agree that Rotties can be the most gorgeous, loving dogs around.
But. And I know you'll all throw the thumbs down at me. I had a Rotty who was the most beautiful, friendly, well-socialised dog you could ever meet. So good with my daughter, she could do anything to him. One day a small dog barked at me and my dog, who had played with many dogs of many different sizes went ballistic and ripped the little dog to shreds.
What I realised was this. And reading up on the breeds has confirmed it. The dogs aren't born to necessarily be aggressive BUT the CAPACITY to be aggressive is in the blood line. So, a well brought up Rotty (or pit bull) probably won't be aggressive but if provoked in the right way (eg a child accidentally hurting it) they are CAPABLE of doing a lot of damage. They are big, powerful dogs. If I'd had a yorkshire terrier that little dog wouldn't have been torn to shreds. I live with that picture every day and I won't own a large, powerful breed again.
But that's just me. If I met you and you told me your dog was friendly I'd love to pat it. As I said, they are gorgeous dogs. but they are also a big responsibility.

i don't have a rottie (even although I fairly adore them). I even have an Akita that's additionally primary as an "agressive" breed. all of us is often judging him till now assembly him; assuming that he's aggressive. My Akita is the sweetest dogs interior the international and that i've got in no way come for the time of an agressive Rottie. I worked on the SPCA for 4 years and observed distinctive them.

I choke it up to just plain ole ignorance. You're right I had a rottie that changed many peoples opinion about them. All we can do is educate those that are willing to listen and see for themselves.
