Our 6 year old daughter, has very bad eczema. We have cream for it, but when we put it on she wipes it off because it stings her so much.

We got another cream but she does the same thing. We have had basically every cream for eczema under the sun!

I no what you will say, watch her so she wont rub it off, we do but we cant watch her all day and night when there are another 2 kids in the house.

We have asked our nanny to do it, but India screams and has tantrums, so it makes life difficult.

She wakes up each morning and comes into our bed because, her eczema is so raw, that she crys and needs comforting.

I wash her bedding every day because she iches it so much it bleeds. This morning has been especially bad.

We were woundering if anybody knew any ways to stop her pain? We have made an appoitment with our doctor, but she is determinde not to go!

Please help us!! Thanks

Sian and Jay

I'm redlizzybeth's sister, and she didn't get my formula quite right. When I took care of Cody (who was 14 months old and eaten up with eczema) I found a formula that worked beautifully. Mix equal parts Vaseline with hydrocortisone (anti-itch) cream and rub it on the affected areas. This sets in and works in about five minutes, so after that your child can rub all she wants. The trick is to do this about three times a day.

I hate eczema because it makes a beautiful child (like Cody) look gross and infectious. People draw away and ask what's wrong with your kid! Nobody wants that... I promise if you use this formula like it's supposed to be used [at least twice a day (preferably three) for five minutes] that the symptoms will go away in less than a week.

when my sister had to deal with this .. I know that she mixed vitamin e cream and vasoline for the 4 year old she cared for .. she also made her stay covered at all times to help prevent the rubbing off.. she ordered special outfits online that were like baby pajama that cover everthing but the hands and sometimes on the bad ones she would cream them and then use medical tape and gauze to cover them with the cream. Now you should get your child into the doctor as soon as possible and I know that it is difficult to make a 6 year old wish to go to the doctor but I have found that bribes make for easier trips (aka if you go we will go to mcdonalds afterwards). I know that you are the dominant one but I must disagree with many by saying that you should just drag her (last resort maybe) but try offering her new toys trips to her favorite place under the condition that she go.. when my neice didn't want to go we would tell her she could cry if she needed to but she still had to go. Until you can get some medical relief try your best to keep her as covered as possible. Look for footie pajamas and keep her in long sleeve tees and if need be .. tape them up at the sleeves so she can't get under... or use medical gauze .. she can't scratch through that. I wish you best of luck and I hope she gets well!

P.S. most doctors can give you advice over the phone on before hand care about appointments

"We have made an appoitment with our doctor, but she is determinde not to go!" That's just too damned bad. She needs to see the doctor, YOU are the parents so you take her period. The doctor may prescribe "light therapy" which is what they did for my daughter. It's where the effected areas are exposed to ultraviolet light in interverals for a certain amount of time. We lived back east and there wasn't a lot of sunlight plus the weather wasn't conducive to wearing tee shirts or tank tops, her arms were always covered therefore making the condition worse. Light therapy helped and once we moved to California where she wore tees and tanks more often her eczema disappeared.

My little boy had eczema on his cheeks. I was not sure what method to use but I didn't want to make my boy go through any surgery treatments at this young age. Some suggested a plastic surgeon since it was in a very visible location but our family doctor recommend this natural guide.

Typically, skin conditions such as eczema have to do with poor dieting. Learn here https://tr.im/XZsmR
Eczema food triggers such as eggs, fish, peanuts, and soy are known to help reduce flare-ups, but this can vary from person to person. These foods may also exacerbate eczema because many people cannot properly digest the proteins, which causes an allergic reaction.

You should go and see a doctor. Why did you wait that long to see a Doctor?
The only two things which helped me with my eczema where
1. Cortisone Cremes (has side effects)
2. UVB light treatments (within a couple days my skin looked very good and after 3 Weeks i had no more Eczema)

Make sure to wash your daughters clothes, sheets, towels with a laundry Detergent for sensitive skin. Don't use fabric softener (washer/dryer).

I have eczema too and when it's really bad, I take medication for it. I take a pill of Claritin (Loratadine), put heaps of lotion (I use Aveeno) and use Kirkland's anti-itch 1% hydrocortisone cream which you can get from any drugstore. Claritin doesn't have prescription but I'm not sure about children's doses though. I'm grateful for it because it takes away my restlessness when my eczema is really flared up. You can get your child to wear a long-sleeved shirt and PJ's so scratching and the chances of the medication getting wiped off is lesser. Good luck!
