Cracked my knuckles for years and it never did me any harm. Seeing as you are happy with your feminine side, may I suggest you get a good hand cream and use this, sounds like you have severely dry skin on your knuckles. If you put in on a few times a day, and especially before you go to sleep, it will go. And, I know plenty of (very straight) guys who use hand cream. Nothing wrong with taking care of yourself.

My knuckles are cracking too. Its just the cold weather as far as I know.
I rub some skin lotion on my knuckles every day for about 1 hour. It helps to heal it.

This might sound crazy, but go get a good lotion( ask a pharmacist) and put it on at night when you go to bed, but wear gloves to hold the moisture in. You will have to do this several times before you will see a difference. When you get up make sure you wash with mild soap, and reapply the lotion.

cracking your knuckles certainly won't dry your skin out,try a good hand cream/moisturiser and use 3 times a day,a good one is cetaphil, aveeno, even any type of moisturising cream such as johnsons, etc, try a non perfumed/scented one tho.

After every shower, slather moisturizing lotion on your hands.
Also, if you work with solvents, consider wearing gloves to protect your skin.
