The only "ouch" thing I've ever done is pierce my ear cartilage four times, and I used to cut myself. I would like to get my first tattoo done on the inside of my lower lip, probably saying "vanity" or something. I don't know. I was wondering, that because I have braces, would it be okay to get a tattoo in there? Will my braces affect the healing or anything?
Since I've heard lip tattoos fade quickly, how many times will I have to get it redone before it gets 100% permanent? How often must I redo it?
I need complete answers, please. And if possible, professional opinion. Thanks (:

Wait until the braces are off.
The sheer thought of the metal rubbing up against a fresh tattoo is making me cringe.

First of all, inner lip tattoos, no matter how many times you have them touched up are not going to be permanent. The skin inside of your lip is different and because of that, ink just doesn't like to stick there. I've seen people push out ink in 24-48 hours after the tattoo. Because of this, tattoo artists wont give you the standard free touch up and you might as well flush your money down the toilet beacause you'd be paying quite a bit of money for constant touch ups.
However... if it is something you have your heart set on and you are prepared to deal with that (and let's be honest, if you don't like it and decide to let it grow out, who's going to be in your mouth besides your dentist to know about it, right?) I would still wait until the braces come off. The extra friction of the brackets is going to irritate the area just as they would a if you cut or bit the inside of your mouth and impede the healing of the tattoo.
Other then that, there's really nothing to stop you from doing it just because you have braces, dentists usually are strongly against piercing because of the metal rubbing aginst the gums and teeth, but it's just your skin, who cares if theres a doodle on it.

Well I am of a mindset that if there is a will, there's a way, AS LONG as it is reasonable.
Keeping in mind that most times lip tattooing has to be touched up a couple times and that still does not guarantee it staying - if you really want to have it done while you have braces you will need to have it done when you are not going to be visiting the orthodontist for adjustments for starters. THEN you will need to push that dental wax over the brackets to make for a really smooth area to come in contact with the tattoo while it is healing.
While some people believe no particular care is needed, I believe in rinsing with a non-alcohol mouthwash and using mild toothpaste without bleach, like for kids.
Good oral hygiene is particularly important in this case. Let me know how you fare if you decide to do it!

You could get it done 1000 times and it will still never be permanent. The inner lip will never hold ink for along period of time. If your unlucky it will last a week and if your lucky it may last for a year. On average they last 1-3 months.
You braces wont effect the lip tattoo at all. Lip tattoos are VERY painful for something that may only last a month. I remember too well.
Good Luck if you do get it done.

Wait until you have the braces off! The metal rubs and will make the tattoo raw. It won't heal quickly... the artist might not even do it. Plus, the orthodontists complain. (I got lectured about having my tongue pierced with braces)
It fades faster on some people than on others- it depends on how well your skin holds ink, how much you play with it, etc
Even with fading, it should be years before a touch up (after the initial touch ups the artist may want to do that is)

I didn;t know you COULD tattoo inside your mouth! I have been watching, hoping someone would post pics, as I'm uintrigued! I would have thought it was a bit of a dodgy 'environment' for the healing process. All warm, wet and full of bacteria. Also, I know most of us get tattoos for ourselves...but NONE would see one inside your mouth, unless you keep going rounds pulling your lip out at people! lol And that isn't an attractive look at the best of times! Sorry I can't offer any advice, I'm just nosey....and still hoping someone will post pictures... ;-)

Don't even get the inside of your lip tattooed because the ink and braces will not mix well together.

I love inside lip tattoo. The whole Vanity thing is to like Jeffree Star think of something else. If you have braces and your lip tattoo you stupid. Braces cut apart your lip so if you something done there its going to peal it all off and it will pointless to get. Wait till you get them off.
