I want to study engineering at some point. Should I apply for jobs as a CAD operator to get some sort of experience ?

Are companies going to be willing to someone who needs training without experience ?

I was hoping to be able to study at night for a few years.

What do I need to get a job as a CAD operator and get into drafting ?

Civil is the desired discipline ?

I'm 24 and I have a non engineering degree.

well as a engineering designer with a B Eng (Hons) in Engineering and use Catia V5 for a few years, I'm not into civil engineering, but autocad and microstation are the usual ones they use, i consider autocad as mickey mouse compared to unigraphics, pro-e, sdrc and catia, microstation is a version of intergraph which i have used and should be a decent cad system, but i cant compare it to the major cad systems as i dont know if it's parametric like the ones i use
good luck on your pursuit in civil engineering

Sorry.
The days of free training as a drafting 'junior` are over.
You will not be hired without some competence in the
use of the Auto Cad program and basic understanding
of the field in which you propose to work.
A certificate from a training program is an absolute
minimum.
