I speak only for one atheist (note correct spelling), myself. I am saddened by the fact that most of the world suffers from one god delusion or another, when it should be obvious that much more could be accomplished by humanity if they would just grow up already and realize that we are on our own here, that the only help we're going to get is from each other. I am saddened when I reflect on where humanity COULD be, had we not been held back by religious belief over the centuries. I am saddened by people with two good legs going around on figurative crutches, because someone has convinced them they're crippled. To me, there is nothing sadder.

I've heard this one before. They've even done scientific research that proves religious people are happier than non-religious people. It only makes sense, after all, haven't you ever noticed how much happier the 5 year olds are at Christmas than the 10 year olds. "Oh, to believe in Santa again. How wonderful that would be. Oh well, I wonder if mom and dad got me the Robosapien I asked for. At least Christmas won't be a total wash"

well the only way to know if they are athiest is to bring up the idea of god.
and of course that whole idea doesn't wash with them,
so no athiests don't seem sad all the time, just when u talk to them about religion.

i've never made this observation, athiests always seem like run of the mill ppl to me
however studies have proven that people who believe in a higher being are less susceptible to depression due to a lack of an afterlife, or belief that there is someone looking out for you, ect.

If the atheists you know are spelling it "athiest." They might be sad because they know they can't spell.

It must be a delusional state, since the atheists here have a profound sense of humor and camaraderie.

They seem that way to you because you can't stand the thought of people being able to be joy filled and not believe in your sky fairy.

'i' before 'e' except after 'c'
and in 'weird' and 'ATHEIST'.
There, how sad was that?
Now to the core question.
What makes you think that we are sad all the time? All the time?
I think that it is just another delusion. Yet another one.
