Matthew 1:25 - "...and did not KNOW her till she had brought forth her FIRSTBORN son. And he called His name Jesus."

doesn't this say that she had sex after the birth of Jesus?

No it doesn't.

The term "Firstborn" has very special significance in the Hebrew faith tradition. It does not necessarly indicate that there were other sons.

Once a sacred vessel is dedicated to God's service, it is NEVER permitted to be used for profane purposes.

Mary was the most sacred "vessel" of all, because she carried Christ within her for nine months, she lived with God in the flesh, for over 30 years, and she was closer to the Holy Spirit than any other human ever could be.

This was clear to all those who knew Jesus and Mary, and it has always been perfectly understood by the authentic and universal (Catholic) church.

It was also clear to all of the original Protestant reformers.

Only in relatively recent times has the level of apostacy risen to the point where many or most Protestants no longer believe the authentic truth about Mary ... and it's mainly because of their seriously flawed interpretations of scripture, based solely on their very own, equally flawed, late day faith traditions.

Yes, she did have sex after the birth of Jesus. The name of her other son was James.

Matthew 13:55,56a says:

"Is this not the carpenter’s son?
Is not his mother called Mary, & his brothers James & Joseph & Simon & Judas? And his sisters, are they not all with us?"

God's Word teaches that Joseph & Mary had several children together, after Christ's birth, not just sex. Also, after Jesus' resurrection, Jesus' brothers were among his followers who gathered in Jerusalem, before Pentecost 33 CE:

"With one accord all these [Christ's faithful apostles] were persisting in prayer, together with some women & Mary the mother of Jesus & with his brothers." --Acts 1:14

So, even though his brothers weren't following him before, after his death, they seem to have had 'a change of heart'!

Only Catholic believe in the perpetual virginity of Mary. The rest of Christendom thinks that is ridiculous.

actually if you check out a hebrew/greek bible study you'll find that the the word that is translated as "till" or "until" is the same that is used in the passage that talks about David putting away his first wife and "she never gave birth to a child UNTIL she died."
Same idea, it's saying she never had kids, or in this case, she didn't have sex with Joseph.
I'm not Catholic, I'm just giving you their explanation. It also has a lot to do with Mary's mother, Saint Anne, and dedicating Mary to the church, but that is all tradition and extra-Biblical stuff.

We don't believe in immaculate conception 'round here. Depends on your belief system. Jesus had a couple brothers. Not much mention of Jesus' sisters in the book. Mary was no virgin. Good woman though.

Jesus had several half brothers and sisters. She was only a virgin until after Jesus was born.

Apostolic tradition is that she was a pure woman in all aspects.
The apostles, in fact, were at times, afraid to approach her because of it. They would send the unmarried ones to speak with her (since they also, were virgins)

(some books were not included in the Bible because they were so badly deteriorated it was difficult to make out the words of the text, however, they are still preserved, and available for perusal)

edit: I would also like to add here that the massive information we all enjoy in this day and age was not available to all peoples at all times. Our sex education makes us all a bit....arrogant. There were times in our history when people blushed to mention a woman's ankle.

I agree with you -- Jesus had siblings and Mary and Joseph had sexual relations after Jesus was born.

I don't know why anyone would feel threatened by that.

Yes, and she also had sex before: that y-chromosome came from a human being. But the whole virginity business is a canard: it is an incorrect translation of a Greek word that actually means "young woman."
