no its not dude sorry 40 gigs cant do that they dont have backwards compatibility thats why there so much cheaper u need 2 get a 60 gig or maybe an 80 gig but i have actually heard that the 40 gig has an emotion engine but only plays ps2 games and not ps 1 so mayber try updating it 2 the latest version connect it 2 your comp with internet or get a memory stick for psp cos u can put them in ps3s and download the update (u need a psp) connect the psp put the ps3 update from website on take mem stick out and put it in ps3 and wala

there is possibility that sony is working on it because they just patented an emulation engine for the emotion engine which is the proccessor inside the ps2s so if you a few months sony will probably release the emulation engine in the end of this year/ christmas with firmware 3.0 right now the ps3 is on 2.80 and the last firmware was 2.70 so you can hold your breath and if you do a google search you will find many results about sony patenting ps2 emulation software.

Unfortunately, no. In order to play PS2 games some hardware needed. Some PS2 versions had more hardware, some - less. 40GB doesn't have any at all.

sorry, 40G ps3 will not play ps2 games at all, the 60G model does though. you should of been told that when you bought it

Nope, 40gig doesn't play ps2 games, it could be possible with software emulation but it would take ages, though it does play ps1 games
