I was thinking of becoming a flight attendant right out of highschool. Imagine that after some time as a flight attendant, I resigned, or became too old for the airline's taste (I suppose there is such a thing). What would I be able to do then, as an experienced flight attendant? Do airlines hire people like that to train the newer batches of flight attendants? How does it work? Thanks...

I'm not sure, but you could become a travel agent. You could become an importer (you'll need to research the areas you go to on your free time). You could be a travel writer or travel photographer.

You could go back to school and do something else!

Can you become a flight attendant right out of high school, though?

Good luck -- I think it'd be a great way to see the world, and learn about people.

I highly recommend getting your Travel & Tourism Diploma first. You will never regret a College Education!
Increasingly, new hire F/A's have a Travel & Tourism Diploma. Priority is given to new recruits with a post-secondary education. You will appreciate having it throughout your life! You will learn so much about our Industry and it prepares you for the Initial training which is tough! Not everyone makes it! It's all about safety!
You can fly until you are 60 or 65 provided you can pass Medical and stay qualified. They say the average F/A retires at age 55 if he or she continues to fly past the average 10 years that most do...If it isn't for you, you usually don't last beyond two years...It takes a lot of commitment and sacrifice!

One of the most important marketable skills an F/A has is language qualifications. Many also work as Translators for major Companies or even Bi-lingual Customer Service Reps.
Some become Travel Agents but would have to upgrade and qualify for a liscence. There are also positions within an Airline such as Crew Scheduling, Health & Safety, Crew Trainers etc.

Some start their own businesses in the Travel/Hospitality fields. Many F/A's have two Careers anyway since we can only legally work up to 90 hours per month! That's why some of your Crew mates are also Dental Hygenists, College Professors, Business owners etc. We make well above average wage but at 90 hours a month Vs 160 hours per month for the average 9 to 5er...That's a lot less hours of pay! So there is plenty of time to do other things!

I'm sure there were many F/A's faced with this question after 9/11. Sadly, some of my friends Careers' ended at that time.
It was heartbreaking...
