I am leaving on the Spirit in a few days, and wanted to get some previous passengers experiences of how they made dinner reservations. I read a few stories about people getting up early to make their reservations, and did not understand why they did not just make them the night before. Can you make them days in advance? Are the shows at a set time so you can plan several days in advance? Can you just show up at the main dining room at 6:00 and get a table, or?

There will be various times and places to make reservations for the specialty restaurants and the main dining rooms. During certain times each day you can go to whatever restaurant you want a reservation for, OR you can use the phone in your cabin to call and make reservations. The problems that we encountered were the most highly sought after restaurants book up (not the main dining room and not all others), AND on the last NCL ship we were on you could make reservations only for two days at a time and only two days in advance. and frankly that was a pain in the butt to remember that every other day you need to m make a reservation somewhere. If you just want to go to the main dining rooms a reservation is not required but if you want a table for 2 its best to reserve. Or, if you do not want to be left standing in a long line for dinner, make a reservation.

Yes you can just show up at the main dining room and get a table; there may be a short wait. We found that if we got there as soon as they opened the chances of getting a table immediately are good.

You will receive in your cabin each evening a newsletter type flier that will have the times and places for all of the activities on the ship the following day. Generally the shows are held at 6:00 to 7:00 PM and again at 9:00 to 9:30 PM so that everyone can have an opportunity to see it. Occasionally there may be a show that is only given at one time but your advance notice will be only about one day.

I was on Royal Caribbean Serenade of the Seas to Alaska last may and we just wore a collar & tie with a sport jacket for the formal nights. Very few people had their own tux and only a few others had the ship's rented tuxes on. A rule of thumb is nobody will turn you away from the restaurant. If you spend your time wondering about what others think of how you dress then maybe you have an inferiorty complex. Also you can ask to be placed on a different table where the other guests are probably nicer anyway. Relax it's a holiday, enjoy yourself

Several ways; there is a list of phone numbers in your cabin, stop by the day before. Each day there is a news letter with the days events and outside of the rest., theather there is a menu or list of times and shows. I would also suggest the Buffet - just after you get your food you walk threw the doors and sit on the aft deck and enjoy your food and view.
Been on the Spirit many times a GREAT SHIP & CREW.
ENJOY.

once on the ship they will have a listing of the phone numbers either on the phone or on a card next to the phone that tells you the number to call to make reservations.
