LesChatN seems to have the BEST for the buck.....
I mean a PANASONIC for $1000 IS A GOOD BUY......
The fact of the matter is, AS LONG as you steer clear of the WEIRD BRANDS that just came out like ILO, VIORE, OLEVIA, INSIGNIA, POLAROID, and WESTINGHOUSE, Then you'll have a good Serviceable TV set with a long life expectancy....
None of the above have any form of parts or service to give it a long life. You throw them away the day they fail....
That's why they are so cheap...they circumvented the law that clearly states manufacturers MUST provide parts for a minimum of SEVEN YEARS....
So what do they do to circumvent the law? Simple....SEND it to us ($100 shipping) and we'll repair or replace it ($400 service fee) and then we'll send it back (another $100) shipping fee.
So, you have a $600 repair bill on ANY problem you have.....
And who has $600 in their pocket for a TV repair? Most have the money and time to look for a NEW TV, and that's what they do, AND they use their Credit card for the convenience.

make sure you know the difference between 1080i and 1080p first. 1080p is the best 1080i is awesome too.I have 1080i Samsung 32" and the graphic is just amazing... but with $1200 I don't know if you'd be able to get a deal... go for 720p or 1080i. Have you tried www.newegg.com ?

I was in Best Buy yesterday and saw a nice 50" Samsung DLP Projection TV for $1,199.
While I'm not a big fan of projection, this was a very nice set for that price.

I got a 42 inch Panasonic HDTV for $999.99 from Paul's TVs. It is a flat screen and can be wall mounted.
I don't know about all those other details. I just know it works.

Well, I have the cheapest HDTV out there. It's Insignia. And it works pretty well. I had it for more then a year now. If I were you I'd just go for the biggest screen for the money.
Get a warranty if you have doubts.

If I had 1200 bucks I wouldn't spend it on a friggin' tv.
I'd use it to buy materials for my sail boat.
